At other schools , students take home interim and report cards in between and at the end of each quarter . But do those letters really mean anything to the parent or guardian other than ” My student is having the same troubles they always have in this subject ” or ” My student is doing great , make sure they keep it up ” ? Not really . Unless parents or guardians ask their student about their studies , they won’t know what they enjoy or need help with until those interim or quarter grades come home .
That’s why we don’t ‘ do ‘ report cards .
We host days where p / g s can come in and see what their student is doing , talk with the teacher on anything that concerns their student , or even participate and help with the class work they are doing that day .
We also set up p / g – teacher conferences before or after school , on weekends , or on days without school . If p / g s are unable to come in for a conference , we can do it over the phone , e-mail , or send a detailed report about their student’s performance , their areas of improvement and excellence .
We want every parent or guardian to be interested in their student’s studies , because it is the years during their childhood and into their adulthood . It may not seem important now , but it can mean a lot to them in the future , when they remember how their p / g s took an interest in something that spanned many years of their early life . We can’t necessarily change how p / g s think of their student’s education , but we can try and give them something to be excited about !
