One of fashion’s most iconic event of the year, the Met Gala, also known as the Met Ball. The Met Gala 2018 was on May 7th, which as always, is the first Monday in May. It is an annual event that raises money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s costume Institute in New York City.

This year’s controversial theme is Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. There was several accessories that come from the Sistine Chapel sacristy, including the heavily jeweled Tiara of Pius IX and the Cope of Benedict XV which is from the Vatican collection. In past years many celebrities have gotten criticised for wearing ‘inappropriate’ outfits. This year all of the attendees had to be cautious with their outfit choice, in hopes not to offend.

Most of the celebrities who attended were on theme, especially Rihanna who co-chaired at the Met Ball this year. Rihanna wore a pope inspired dress that was filled with jewels and crystals made by Maison Margiela.

Cardi B who is seven months pregnant was also the event, it was her first time at the Met and her heavily jeweled dress which she paired with a shining matching headpiece which covered her neck as well, by Jeremy Scott. Some celebrities who are on Vogue’s Met Gala 2018: The Best Dressed Celebrities on the Red Carpet list are Madonna in Jean Paul Gaultier, Migos in Versace and Bella Hadid in Chrome Hearts Official.

Meanwhile some celebrities that were not so much on theme were the Kardashian/Jenner family. Kylie Jenner went with an all black, simple Alexander Wang dress, with gem filled glasses, Kendall Jenner went with an all white jumpsuit with see through white gloves, and a slick back ponytail, Kris Jenner went with a black feather dress with gold details which barely touched the theme. Kim Kardashian went more on theme considering the rest of her family’s outfit choices, a gold Versace dress with two minimal crosses to stay themed.

Other celebrities who usually attend the annual event did not go, including Beyonce, Kanye West, and Lady Gaga. While most of the people who did not attend did not confirm the reason for their absence, it is said Beyonce and Jay Z had a trip planned therefore would not make it. Kim Kardashian tweeted that her husband, Kanye West is busy finishing up five albums and Lady Gaga did not explain her nonattendance to the Met Ball.

Everyone who attended definitely touched on Heavenly bodies and/or the Catholic Imagination, and now to wait until next years first Monday in May.
