their help that will be going towards new equipment.

“I read a lot of books to the kids and they just want me to keep reading to them; they think it’s fun, so it’s fun for me,” said Junior Johnathan Szutenbach.IMG_3892 The players wake up at 8 a.m. and tutor the students who have trouble reading until 8:45 a.m.

Sophomore Patrick Rivas talked about how much pride he took in teaching the students, even if the program is mandatory.

“I love seeing the kids smile and they always make me laugh, so I don’t mind waking up early to read and tutor them,” said Rivas. It reminded him of when he was a kid and when he looked up to the older kids. Rivas believes it benefits both sides by providing money for the team and providing learning possibilities for the students of Sterling Elementary.

The soccer team just finished tryouts, and is looking to have a bountiful season this year. Even with their busy practice schedule, they still find time to help the students of Sterling Elementary school.
