Now that the 2017-2018 school year has begun, students are getting back into the swing of things. With that comes the task of balancing schedules, activities, and extracurriculars, while not trying to over-commit. Amidst that, students should consider joining the new honor societies that Park View High School now offers, which will help to enhance their resumes. Some of the newly adopted honor societies at Park View include Music Honor Society and History Honor Society.
Tri-M, Park View’s new music honor society, is a well-recognized organization with many chapters all over the country. “I was a member when I was in high school and this membership is still included on my professional resume,” said Ms. Harlie Krug, co-sponsor of Tri-M. In this club, students plan to help the Park View community, the music department, and their ensembles. Members of Tri-M are required to perform at least two band related services during the year such as handing out programs and helping bands pack up after a concert. “Our hope is that, by being a member of Tri-M, students from different ensembles will work together and build more unity among across the department,” said Ms. Krug.
Mr. Andrew Johnson, Ms. Jessica Monge, Mr. Hunter Kleffman, and Mr. Gerritt Peck are the sponsors for Rho Kappa, the new history honor society at Park View. This club is meant to create opportunities for students interested in history that will help them achieve a deeper understanding in the subject. “We are going to make monthly trips to the various historical sites around us (i.e. Mount Vernon, Manassas Battlefields, etc.),” said Mr. Johnson, “we are even going to take a special tour in the spring with Mr. Matthew Poth to the Library of Congress.”
