The final showdown of the season, the 2018 ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships, will take place April 6th and 7th in Stockholm, Sweden. This year’s intense season will all be put on the line at this competition. The Haydenettes will be representing Team USA 1 alongside Skyliners making their debut at the World Championships as Team USA 2.
Last year’s World Champions, Team Paradise (RUS1), will be looking to redeem their world title. They will be skating to “Exogenesis: Symphony Part 3” for their short program, in addition to their “Age Of Heroes” free program. Team Tatarstan will be competing alongside Paradise as RUS 2. Their short program will be dedicated to the lives lost on 9/11, and their free program has an “Evil Witches” theme. At the 2017 World Championships, Team Paradise edged out Marigold Ice Unity (FIN 1) by just .12 overall for the gold medal. A rematch is in order this year, as Marigold Ice Unity will be performing their short program to “Under the Northern Stars” followed by their innovative “Ocean” themed long program. 2009 and 2013 World Champions Team Unique will be representing FIN2 instead of last years attendees, RCKT. Team Unique will be skating to an originally composed piece for their short program followed by their free program, skated to a medley of covers by Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox. It will be interesting to see how these two Finland teams stack up!
Last year’s World bronze medalists, Nexxice (CAN1), will be performing their short program to “Spellbound Concerto” along with a “River” themed free program. Nexxice placed just 0.54 overall behind MIU at the 2018 French Cup, so they are certainly in the running for another World Medal. Les Supremes will be returning to the World Championships, representing CAN 2. Recently, Les Supremes won the 2018 Mozart Cup with their captivating “La La Land” free program and a total segment score of 185.12.
After missing the podium by 3.11 last season, the Haydenettes will be looking redeem themselves on the world stage this weekend. Both of the Haydenettes programs this year are incredibly intense and creative. Their short program will be performed to “Run Boy Run” and is entitled “The Prophecy”. Their free program, entitled “Underground Nightlife” skated to a variety of electronic music, helped the Haydenettes earn another US National title this past February. The Skyliners, making history not only for their club but also in the sport, will be looking to make a huge impact at their first World Championships. They will be skating their short program to “I Was Here”, along with their amazing “Cleopatra” themed free program. They recently earned the silver medal at the US National Championships with a total score of 185.86, putting them in the running to be top contenders.
Team Surprise and Team Boomerang will be representing SWE1 and SWE2, respectively. Team Surprise placed 7th at last year’s World Championships, under RUS2 by 6.86. Team Boomerang placed 13th last year under Jingu Ice Messengers (JAP). The Jingu Ice Messengers have made strides throughout the past few seasons and will be performing their short program to “Tarzan” and their free program to “Forrest Gump”. Team Berlin 1 (GER) placed 10th last season, with a total score of 155.29. Recently, they earned the silver medal at the Cup Of Berlin with a “Creepy Dolls” free program, and a total score of 165.28.
