This is the history of the Northeast region! In the 1500’s a few tribes in the region Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, and Tuscarora started the Iroquois Confederacy. Each village was made up of longhouses. The Iroquois called themselves Hodenosaunee meaning people of the longhouse. Another interesting fact about the Iroquois Confederacy is that women were the leaders. Later on in 1620 British settlers now known as pilgrims landed in what is now Plymouth Massachusetts. They were controlled by a country in Europe called England. In 1700’s they decided that it was unfair that the British were controlling them all the way in Great Britain. In 1773 disguised colonists went on a ship and threw hundreds of boxes of tea into the ocean. The disguised colonists are now known as the minutemen, because they were ready at a minute notice. The revolutionary war started on April 19 1775 and ended on September 3 1783 with George Washington as head general. And George Washington’s army won and he became president of the United States of America.
