Accessory Article for Topic Thesis (2nd Blog Post Assignment)

From the American University of Washington D.C., Pragya Jain’s article, “AI and the Future of Work in the United States,” explores the economic and societal implications of rising artificial intelligence and how humanity will not face even repercussions for having it. Although technology will inevitably grow exponentially as with its usability and co-dependent relationship with mankind, its place in society will vary. This could range from certain professions being unable to replace human-based proctors and workers due to the inherent nature of their fields like in hospitals and communications to being the primary producers and providers of goods as with manufacturing facilities and delivery services. The article delves into machine learning – the process of AIs adapting to stimuli – in order to emphasize the benefits for jobs requiring higher education and the incoming detriments of not having it.

The article briefly explains many topics surrounding AI and its compatibility with modern society. Regulation of policies, machine learning, pop-culture references, examples of smart-phones, algorithms and solutions to said changing work environments are all mentioned here. Although very short, the article has a vast amount of introductory information that will be useful in branching out from the initial question of “What is the Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Humanity’s Future?” Narrowing down the subject of general impact to the changing workforce and its economic repercussions will garner great detail surrounding the hurdles and goals of AI. The biggest hurdle of which will be addressing the lack of already-present jobs offering decent wages and growth opportunities within rural and poorer regions in general. So, a better question might involve assisting or mitigating the problems that AI might introduce instead of just the AI impacting the workforce.

What is the Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Humanity’s Future?

What kinds of AI will be implemented? When will they start to become common in first world countries or in third world countries? What are the immediate and long term consequences of implementing AI into the workforce? Where will AI’s place be in the world beyond just the workforce? How will it be regulated? How will it be normalized? How will jobs be affected? Will AI’s be considered personal property, company assets, or something else entirely? How many more jobs will be gained or lost? Will humans still be needed for basic labor jobs and if they aren’t, what will happen to those who can’t go into highly specialized areas of the workforce? How will the economy be affected?
