Once you’ve become proficient on your instrument, you can begin to memorize music. Maybe you need to do it for a performance, or marching band, or just for fun. Depending on the person and difficulty of the piece, the amount of time to memorize something varies. One way is to memorize the fingerings, the notes, or to memorize a picture of the sheet music. If you play multiple instruments, it might be helpful to play your piece on each one or if you try to write out the piece from memory. The most important step is repetition. The most ideal form of memorizing music is muscle memory where you don’t have to even think about it. I’ve found that it is easiest to memorize music that you enjoy. Good luck!

Choosing an Instrument to Play
Perhaps you’ve been inspired by a song you heard on the radio, or you’ve been playing an instrument for years and want to pick up a new one. You want to learn an instrument, but first you need to choose one. There are dozens of instruments out there and it can be hard to choose. I’ll give you some basic guidelines that will help.
First, there it the cost of the instrument. Most woodwind instruments (like clarinets) require you to buy reeds every couple of weeks and string instruments (violins and such) need to have the hair on their bows replaced. Although this factor won’t matter to some, to others it might be important to consider. Another question to ask yourself is what type of music do you want to play? If the answer is pop or rock, then you might want to try guitar or piano. Classical? Instruments in the string family are a popular choice, violin, viola, or cello to name a few. Really love songs from movies? Maybe you want to try a band instrument, like flute or trumpet. Saxophone or clarinet is a popular choice for jazz lovers.
Regardless of what you choose, be prepared to work hard and practice often. However, once you master your instrument it might be the most enjoyable part of your day!
Welcome to my blog!
On this blog I will be talking about my two passions, woodworking and music! I enjoy building things of all types and will talk about both the design and building process of woodworking. Although I am not the most experienced woodworker, I hope to become more experienced and help those who are just starting. The other portion of my blog will discuss composing, arranging, and playing band instruments. I play most of the woodwind instruments along with the piano and the guitar. As for the composing and arranging, I’ll will discuss the basics and the programs that I use. Any questions? Just ask, and I’ll do my best to help!
