Sketchbook 3.2

For my third piece, I have the idea of doing a more mixed media piece. This is kind of a bad example but this is the main street in my grandma’s home town. I did the buildings in ink and then printed out the cars from the reference photo. Then, I used old newspaper clippings from the hometown’s local newspaper. I also had the idea of creating the piece on a ball or a globe but I think that would be considered a 3-D piece so I’ll stick to something flat.

  1. I really like your idea so far! Especially using the old newspapers from her hometown give it a nostalgic feel. If you have some empty or white spaces you want to fill I think using some light colored tissue paper might look nice. I also think you should go further with the half photo- half drawing that you’ve done for some parts of the building and one of the cars.

  2. This sounds like a really interesting idea. An interesting development would be if you did a scene that was half in clippings, and half sketched out… or perhaps, you could to sketched areas in inverted colors from the clipping colors. There’s a lot of cool stuff you can do with your idea!

  3. I really love the themes you have for your sketchbooks. It makes everything seem very organized and its very pleasing to look at. Your collages are very nice and make very good visuals, giving the viewer a sense of what your piece will look like.
