What’s wrong with Youtube?

We all know the largest video sharing platform in the world. Yes, Youtube, the one place where 1.3 Billion people go on. 300 hours of video quantity are uploaded on Youtube every minute. Surprisingly, Youtube has gotten around 1 trillion views in total ever since the platform initiated in 2005. Nowadays, it gets an average of 3.25 billion views per month and the average increases as the years come. I remember when Youtube use to have a much, much smaller community back then. Pewdiepie still making CoD and Minecraft videos in his parent’s basement, back when videos like “The Duck Song” and “Charlie Bit My Finger” rose to fame, and back when there were like around 50 channels with around 1 million subscribers. But now, there are around 2000 channels with an average of 1 million subscribers. Youtube has become such a much larger community now and if you think about it, there wasn’t a lot of drama happening back then and roasting was hardly even a thing. But shockingly, Youtube has changed faster than anyone could’ve anticipated. It has become so much more competitive and there has been drama going on everywhere with idiotic people such as Lil Tay becoming famous off of the Internet for preposterous reasons. You read the comments, and you see so many abusive and uncivilized people commenting totally bogus and unnecessary things. People will hate like crazy and the Internet(Youtube especially) has become malicious. Pewdiepie, who has become extremely overrated because his content isn’t any better than all of the other YouTubers who are working hard in order to become like him with many subs. Youtube Rewind has gotten so much worse because they seem to promote the same youtubers that have been in it every single year. They don’t follow up on a lot of trends that actually happen on their platform and they seem to be more detached from their creators and viewers than ever. I will use Youtube rewind 2018 as an example. When you watch the video, it just absolutely proves that Youtube is more focused on ad revenue and promotion than viewer satisfaction and the actual purpose of rewind. Which tells you directors and filmmakers who work at the studio are just simply lazy and seem to care less about the criticism. Part of the reason for why this might all be happening is because nowadays, Youtube has so many content creators, different platforms, and channels that it’s so difficult to fit in so many people at once. But that’s the issue, Youtube needs to reduce the number of people in their video, and they need to find people who are extremely famous on Youtube as well as people who actually made a big impact during that year. But Rewind 2018 wasn’t like that, we have so many fast-moving scenes and unknown Youtubers that we know don’t deserve to be in the 2018 rewind because they weren’t as important as people who should’ve been in Rewind. There need to be extremities among Youtubers and they need to understand the demographics of their own audience.Image result for youtube

Every time I think of Youtube, I think of people having heated beef between each other and how salty people have become. Especially Clickbait, which has really gotten out of hand. I see a lot of YouTubers who put lots of inappropriate pictures on their thumbnail just to get lots of views from children. Now, when it comes to Youtube drama, most of the audience are statistically middle schoolers or anyone else under that age. Youtube does such a terrible job of demonetizing inappropriate videos and makes age restricted videos. Even if a video is an age-restricted, kids will always find a way to attain an accessible youtube account and watch those age-restricted videos without any consent or second thoughts. Youtube has to find a better way to make these videos unassessable to that younger audience and if not, then just demonetize it, it’s not hard youtube. They seem to not do that because big YouTubers such as Jake Paul and Idubbz have more money and control over smaller YouTubers who make even less money. It goes to show that there will be so many underrated YouTubers who will get less fame and fortune than more popular YouTubers mainly because of ad revenue. I was thinking that Youtube should maybe just remove thumbnails altogether. It seems to not have a good purpose. Sure, people can see what the video might look like with one picture, but people are taking advantage of that. It’s also the titles that people attach to the thumbnail as well. Youtube really needs to put some restrictions and limitations because it’s getting out of hand. Youtube has no longer been a community anymore if you ever decide to become a youtube, think about the cons as well. You will get no support whatsoever and you will be forced to compete with other YouTubers. The chances of you become a famous Youtuber nowadays is now highly unlikely and I don’t think that anything will ever change since Youtube is now highly focused on money just like every other company in the world.
