Narwhal’s Unicorn Horn 🦄 🦄 🦄 🦄 🦄 🦄 🦄 🦄 🦄 🦄 🦄 🦄 🦄 🦄 🦄 🦄 🦄 🦄

One day, Dolphin 🐬 asked Narwhal, “why do you have a beautiful horn on your head?”

Narwhal said, “nannaanannnaaa naaa! I have a beautiful horn, because I am a unicorn 🦄! Nannaanannnaaa naaa!
Dolphin 🐬 felt sad because her friend was bragging. She felt upset, and offended. She went to meet Seahorse and Craison. But they were busy with finding the perfect kelp for each other, and accidentally eating it!
But Craison gave Dolphin 🐬 some advice, “first ignore her. Then if she keeps being mean, brag about something you can do that she can’t do.”
For two days Dolphin 🐬 ignored Narwhal, but Narwhal kept bragging.
So Dolphin 🐬 bragged that she could breathe out of the water 💦. Narwhal felt sad that Dolphin 🐬 kept bragging, and she was upset. So Narwhal stopped bragging and then Dolphin 🐬 stopped too.
Dolphin 🐬 told Narwhal why she was bragging, because what Narwhal did (bragging) made her sad. Narwhal apologized, and Dolphin and Narwhal reunited.

About a narwhal’s horn: The horn on a narwhal’s head is actually a long tooth that helps it hunt (the horn can be ten feet long!) Known as “the unicorns of the sea,” narwhals are unique for the solitary tusk that protrudes through the tops of their heads. The horn is actually a canine front tooth that can reach as long as nine feet!Research has pinpointed many possibilities, suggesting the tusk is used as a sensory organ, helping the narwhal pick up changes in its environment. Males of the species may even use the horns to look for food or find mates. Firstly, the narwhal’s tusk is actually an overgrown spiralized tooth and it’s one of only two teeth they’ll ever possess. In fact, if you were lucky enough spot a narwhal in the wild you may not even recognize it as a narwhal at all, since many of them lose their tusks over time (hence its mysterious and elusive reputation!). And while there are a few other animals that have similarly protruding teeth (like walruses and elephants), the narwhal tusk is unique still. Essentially, it’s an inside out tooth. The narwhal tusk is incredibly sensitive on the outside, with up to ten million nerve endings on each one. In 2014, researchers even found significant changes in heart rate when alternating solutions of high-salt and fresh water were exposed to the external surface of the tusk. I imagine this as similar to that feeling you get with really cold ice cream on a sensitive spot on your tooth—you know—but way worse. How in the world does the narwhal survive with such a thing in the frigid Arctic waters?

Craison Wadder

Read Part 1 of this story.

Dolphin and Narwhal were very excited to meet Craison after so many years!

Seahorse did not know that Dolphin, Narwhal, and Craison knew each other before.
Dolphin began to tell the story about how they all met.
“Crasion, Narwhal and I did not have friends when we were little. One day, we went individually to the Sea Swing Park. We all went at the same time. We fought over who got the last swing. We were fighting for so long, and so loud that the other fish swam away from the park.

Craison, Narwhal and I did not notice them swimming away, and when we finally stopped fighting, we saw that the swings were empty. We realized that we were so loud and that made the other fish swim away. We were so happy to have all of the swings!

Since we stopped fighting, the other fish came back.

From that day onward, every day after school, we played together on the swings at the Sea Swing Park, until Craison had to move to Seatopia.

Narwhal and I were very sad. It took a few days for us to accept that Craison was gone, and a few years to forget all about him.

We are very happy that Craison is here now!”

Craison then began to talk about what happened to him after he left Seaside, their reef. He said, after I left Seaside Reef, I came back when I heard there was a Sunken Ship(Narwhal and Dolphin still feel a little embarrassed about that!!) I came to move into the Sunken Ship. That is where I met Seahorse.

When Seahorse was making a room in the sunken ship for herself, I bumped into her, when I was looking for a room for myself! Then we became good friends.”

Seahorse added, “I really liked him, but I thought it was too soon to ask if we could become a family. But I couldn’t hold it in for too long, and so I asked him. And he said yes!”

Narwhal said to Seahorse, “we were going to bake a kake for you because you had found your mate. But you were busy plucking kelp for Craison. We brought a cat from Los Catzbut you didn’t notice! And it was only at the Katzien fireworks you introduced us to Craison!”

Dolphin and Narwhal were very happy to be reunited with Craison, and they now had a group of four friends, instead of three!

Seahorse’s Mate

Seahorse had found a mate.

She sent a letter to her friends saying that she found her mate. Her friends, Dolphin and Narwhal, were very happy, and made her a kake.
When they went to give it to her, they saw Seahorse was preoccupied with finding kelp for her mate. So Dolphin and Narwhal left the kake with her and swam back to their reef.
Seahorse, in the meantime, found the best kelp ever, but she ate all of it! There was no kelp for her mate! So she swam out of her reef, and found an oyster. Inside the oyster, there was a pearl. The pearl was a shiny pink sphere. Seahorse was excited to give it to her mate. He loved it!
Dolphin and Narwhal felt they had lost their friend! So they came up with an idea: they swam to Los Catz and took another cat (the person who owned the cat was not happy, like last time!). They took the cat to their reef, and put it right in front of Seahorse.
Seahorse was too distracted, decorating her mate’s house, and couldn’t see the cat. The cat scratched Seahorse, but she couldn’t feel it. Because love kept her safe.
Dolphin and Narwhal were very angry because their plan was to get Seahorse’s attention with the cat, but it did not work.
The next night, they took Seahorse to Los Catz to see the Kadzein fireworks (fireworks that look like the cat god Kadzia).
Seahorse said, “this is much better!”
Dolphin and Narwhal were finally very happy. When they looked at Seahorse…
SHE WAS WITH HER MATE. AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Finally, they gave up on trying to get Seahorse’s attention!
“WHO IS THIS NEW FRIEND?” asked Dolphin.
“Don’t you recognize him?” asked Seahorse.
Narwhal said, “Uhhhh… no!”
Seahorse said, “This is Craison,” pointing to her mate.
Dolphin and Narwhal recognized the name. Narwhal asked, “Are you Craison Wadder?”
Craison said, “Yes!”
Then they remembered Craison from their childhood!
(Story continued in the next post)

Sunken Ship

Seahorse found a sunken ship in the Pacific Ocean, where the three friends lived.

She signaled her friends to come and bring some other fish 🐠 friends along as well. When they all arrived, the other small fish swam into the ship happily.

Dolphin 🐬 and Narwhal asked why the other fish 🐠 liked it so much. Seahorse said, “they like it so much because they can hide from sharks and other predators, and the ship looks very sturdy.”

Narwhal and Dolphin felt a little embarrassed, because they eat some of the smaller fish, so that made them predators! But still they were good friends with Seahorse, so they happily swam to the ship.
When Dolphin 🐬 and Narwhal swam into the ship the other fish 🐠 and crustaceans 🦀 were not scared of them.

Scary Los Catz

One day, the three friends, Dolphin, Seahorse and Narwhal, found an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

They wondered what the island was called. Seahorse poked his eyes out of the water, and saw a sign that was high up on a high building on a high mountain. Since Dolphin knew how to read, she read it. It said “Get your new little kitty at Los Catz!” So they guessed the island was called Los Catz.

After hearing that, Seahorse and Narwhal got terrified, because there were cats all over the island! And they learnt their lesson about cats, earlier.

Dolphin said, “these cats won’t hurt you. Only the sinking cats will.” But they were still terrified. Dolphin tried to convince them. Nothing worked.

Seahorse and Narwhal swam away, while Dolphin explored the island.

Finally Dolphin swam back to her friends, and told them, “the cats that you saw were just cat cars and cat buses!” She explained what cat cars and cat buses are.

“Cat cars and cat buses are just like the cars and buses that we ride on, except that they look like cats, and run around everywhere like a cat on four legs.” She continued, “but beware, the people in Los Catz always have cats around. Always.”

And Narwhal and Seahorse became more terrified!

Finally, Dolphin tried to teach them another lesson. She caught them in a net, took them to the island, grabbed a cat (the person who owned the cat was very angry!) and put the cat in the water, and it was floating.

Narwhal and Seahorse were very sad even though they were scared of it. So they rescued it and put it back on the shore. The cat ran back to its human.

But the cat still liked Seahorse and Narwhal even though they did not know it.
Seahorse and Narwhal still didn’t like cats, but they lost their fear of cats!

Dolphin and the Flying Food

One day Dolphin swam up to the surface for a breath, and she saw flying popcorn.

She knew that the food came from a man’s popcorn bag, in the beach. The man threw the popcorn bag on the sand when he had finished eating, and six pieces of popcorn flew out of the bag and across the ocean.

The popcorn was salty, buttery and chocolaty. She jumped out of the water and gulped a few pieces down. She liked the taste and was very, very happy.

Dolphin took the remaining popcorn that she had caught and gave it to her friends, Seahorse and Narwhal.

Seahorse and Narwhal liked the popcorn just as much as Dolphin did.

Sinking Cat

Seahorse and Narwhal saw a sinking cat.

Seahorse and Narwhal haven’t seen a cat. They wanted to save it. But Dolphin said not to.

They didn’t listen to her.

But when they got close to the cat, the cat scratched Seahorse and Narwhal.

They said sorry to Dolphin and swam away in pain.

Seahorse, Dolphin and Narwhal

Dolphin and Narwhal are good friends. They love to play in the reef.

One day, some fish moves in. The two friends ask who the new fish is.

She says she is Seahorse.

So they play together, and have fun!
