In Communication Studies…

Pixar Stories!

First, we had to learn all about Pixar and even how to come up with such ideas. Then, we needed to plan a story and pitch/present to our peers. After that, the ‘fun’ part begins, a rigorous, long process consuming most of my class time. Of course, I had to complicate things and drew it out instead of making it digitally. Finally, after a long Saturday afternoon, I believed I perfected it.

Story Board!

POETRY

LINK

Something new I learned about during this unit was allusions, and we listened to “We didn’t start the fire” by Billy Joel. We practiced a LOT of figurative language. That skill definitely strengthened. Some advice I would give to people wanting to do poetry is to study different writers’ works and practice theme and the background behind each poem, because each poem reflects YOU as a writer.

Ted Talks!

So, I made two, because the first one I hated, sooooooo….. Let’s talk about the first one first. The title was “Studying to Learn”, and it was about studying effectively, and things to keep in mind, such as Bloom’s Taxonomy and the Forgetting Curve. THEN… I made a second one. Of course I did… I always overthink… Anyhow, the second one was about becoming the best human, which was actually pretty fun to write.

So, my avatar… looks like a hodgepodge of a creation. Anyway, the skin color is my skin color; Olive skin from my dad. The hair color and length is the same as mine in real life, but I used to have dyed green hair, which i got bullied for. Yikes… Moving on, I wear glasses that hide blemishes and bug bites. The headphones are noise cancelling headphones, which help me a lot, because most people are super annoying.  Moving down to the fit, I am wearing a tank top with a rainbow for LGBTQIA+. The shoes are my favorite color; Kashmir, or #6f8d6a (the hex code). The bag I’m holding is for the “club” I tried to make to help save Earth, the Earth Defenders. That was in 4th grade right before coronavirus. I love the outdoors, and I feel like we should help it. That was cheesy, gouda, parmesan. This a great representation of who I am. The process was really fun and easy. I really liked it :). I chose this avatar creation app because I liked the Android figures from the beginning of the introduction, they look so silly XD.

Journalism Unit!

I knew from the start I wanted to do something with the library for my article, as you know from my other blog page. I wrote about the activities that the librarians created for a cooperative community. The process was really fun, my class even got to video chat with Ms. Koh, a journalist from the Washington post!

Illustrated above is the cover page of my children’s book called “It’s ours!”. Knowing the provided prompt of creating a sequel or prequel, this was my final product. I chose to write a sequel to “It’s mine!” because I used to read books by this author, so I had a connection to it. I also love frogs, so the cover of “It’s mine!” intrigued me. I focused on the audience, and wanted the younger group to be able to understand it. I didn’t really have a process of brainstorming my ideas, I knew exactly what I wanted to create. I drew all of the pages in the book, as well. In my book, the frogs must learn to share knowing the diverse community they live in. This is important for a younger audience, because people don’t get to choose the people they live with, or work with. With that information, people have to learn to collaborate with others who are different.
