“Count 2 and 2”
Yells the umpire.
The pitcher looks in
and gets the sign
He starts his motion
My heart beating slowly
The crowd goes silent
The pitcher releases the ball
Hurling toward the catcher
I could see the laces as clear as day
I put my foot in the dirt
I close my eyes and
turn to swing.
“Crack”
I open my eyes
to see the ball flying through the sky
As i round first base
I look up to see
the outfileder running out of room
Up against the fence
watching the ball
Fly over his head
the crowd roars and
the umpire yells
“Homerun”!
