John Champe visual art department has launched several projects in order to celebrate the Youth Art Month.
Originally founded as the Children’s Art Month in 1961, Youth Art Month has been observed every year in March to encourage students to engage in and appreciate art. Several nationwide competitions and events are held around this time to serve that purpose.
In Champe, students made handmade pins for teachers for them to wear around, started an exhibition of artworks by Champe students in Gum Spring Library, and is preparing another exhibition of nationally-acclaimed teen artworks in the school main hallway.
Regina Butler, art teacher, encouraged her colleagues to support the talented students of John Champe, especially by coming “to see the extraordinary work being created by our students every day.”
