PEER’s in the Champe Community

Need a friend or just someone to talk to? John Champe has a PEER mentor program, that can be used as an additional positivity resource for students to go to when in need of help, advice or any type of counseling with a personal situation.  PEER offers help to individuals by pairing each student up with a student PEER mentor and sets times to talk with them about anything that is going on.  You can get help from a PEER mentor by first reaching out to your school counselor and letting them know you are interested in the program.

“Being a PEER mentor, I truly feel like I am affecting someone’s life in a positive way,” senior Gabriella Nazari said “PEER is beneficial to the Champe community because we are an open ear for someone and can act as someone who understands and empathizes with what they are going through if for some reason they are not comfortable or would prefer not to talk to an adult.”

Outside of individual help, PEER at John Champe works to encourage positivity within educational environments.  Around the halls and in the cafeteria you may see bulletin boards that are decorated to engage students to be kind and strive to be the best versions of themselves.  PEER also helps in leading activities held during mental health awareness month and on unity day at school.  Make sure to be on the lookout for more things coming from PEER this year by following them on instagram @JCHSPEER.
