To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before is a trilogy. The series consists of three movies and was inspired by the book series written by Jenny Han. The first movie, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, was released in 2018. The second movie, To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, was released in 2020. The final movie, To All The Boys: Always And Forever, was released early this year. The movie To All The Boys: Always And Forever, takes place in the 2020-2021 school year. Lara Jean Covey and Peter Kavinsky are seniors. Lara Jean Covey is played by Lana Condor, and Peter Kavinsky is played by Noah Centineo. The movie takes place in Oregon but is filmed in Vancouver. The director, Micheal Fimognari, stated the movie genre as a romcom, or a romantic comedy.  The movies were heavily inspired by the book series, however, the similarities between the two were very little. 

Before I begin, I do talk a little bit about the plot, so just a fair warning that there are some minor spoilers. I think this movie was hardly like the third book in the series that Jenny Han wrote, and I understand that the movie can’t be exactly like the books, or the movies would be four hours long. However, the movie cast changed so many major things significant to the plot, like the colleges. In the book, Peter had gotten into UVA, and Lara Jean had been rejected. She ends up getting whitelisted for UNC thought, and the college quickly becomes her first choice. However, in the film, Peter got into Stanford, but Lara Jean got rejected from Stanford. On top of that, in the movie, the setting is in Oregon, but in the books, it’s set in Virginia. I’m not sure if you’re like me, but I always read the books before I watch the movies if there are books. There is also the understanding that movies are never like books, as they sometimes can’t portray them. What I don’t understand though, is why they completely changed the colleges around. Also, at the beginning of the film, the girls were all in Korea with their dad and his girlfriend Trina visiting for spring break. In the book, however, the trip to Korea happens a month after Lara’s graduation, and the girls go to visit their grandmother to get to know her better. There are many more differences between the book and the movie that weren’t that major to the plot, but still important. At the end of the day though, the movie was really enjoyable and I think it wasn’t half bad, ignoring all the intentional plot errors.
