Poetry
So, I am sorry I haven’t posted in a while. I have been super busy with a Poetry Slam that was going on. Speaking of Which, I would love to share with you guys my newest poem! It’s called ‘Red Poppies’, and I hope you guys like it! While trying this new form of writing, I found it somewhat harder than writing a book or short story. It is different because in certain types of poems, you need to rhyme, which can be difficult to match with the story if you use words with very little rhymes like I did. I am proud of how this poem turned out, though. I admit that I sometimes had to search up synonyms or rhyming words because I could not think of any myself at the time. A skill that I feel like I use a lot more than when writing books is brainstorming, since you need to be able to find subjects you want to write about, and then you need to make it so that they rhyme or sound good together. Some advice, just don’t try too hard. Just write what comes to mind, then see where it takes you. I hope you have a good day!

My Signature Color
Hello again! So, today we are going to talk about colors! My signature color is the one you see above because it is really calming and nice. When I draw pine trees, or slightly frosted grass, I usually use this color. That also helps me favor this color because I LOVE the winter time. It is my favorite time because it is cold and that helps with my asthma and it calms me. Now, I have to go. Have a happy winter time!! Bye!! (If the image isn’t loading for you, the color number is #749F60)
My Avatar
My name is Sophie and this is my avatar. Honestly, the only reason I chose this avatar creator is because all the others were being pains and I didn’t want to spend 30 minutes trying to figure out how to create an avatar on a confusing creator. This avatar represents me in many ways. For starters, the brown hoodie. Now, in real life, my hoodie is black, but I couldn’t find a black hoodie in the avatar creator, so this was the next best thing. It represents how I do not care about freezing weather and will always power through the cold and difficult times, even though I chose to go the difficult way. In my avatar, my eyes are blue, though they are really more of a gray, they still show up pretty well. Now, the dog is 100% my little pupper, Maverick. He is a chiweenie and he is the most annoying/cute/best/awesome dogo that has ever lived. I don’t care bout’ what yall say, he is the best. The kitty next to him is Pistachio Nut and he is the best cat ever. He is technically not mine, but I still volunteer at the shelter he lives at, and I love him so he is kinda mine. In a way. (Btw, cat adoption fairs at the PetSmart near target every Sunday from 12-04) The pencil shows my love of writing and grammar, though spelling can leave my side every once in a while. So far, I am in the middle of writing a book called, ‘Bloodlet Blade’. No spoilers, sorry!
My Article
For my article, I decided to write about the lack of substitutes around my county. I started seeing the changes after my History teacher had to sub for my Spanish teacher. Afterwards, I decided to bring light to this struggle that was being fought behind the screen of perfection. I liked the writing parts, though the interviewing parts were still fun. The most trouble I had was either interviewing (Because I get nervous really easily) or the wording (I wanted it to be how it was, not over exaggerated). I managed to finish both without much hassle, both with the help of close friends and teachers.
In all, this was a fun project to be able to do, and I hope I can have another opportunity to do it again.
My Picture Book
Pictured above is the cover of my picture book titled “Alexander and The Great, Big Cat”. After given an idea to write a sequel to the original children’s book, this is my final product. (Book is not published)
I chose to write a sequel to “Alexander and The Great-Big Cat” because this was my favorite book growing up. I would stay up reading it and imagine what adventures the two would go on. Riding birds, searching for a lost button, and fending off cats. So when I was able to write this, I thought, “Why not go with the cat, but add a twist?” Now, the original didn’t have any ‘slaying dragons’ energy, but it did have a bunch of heroic behavior from the main character, Alexander.
My progress started in my journal. It took a while to shape it into the story I liked, but when I did, I was really proud. I hand-drew most of my pages, but since I was in a time crunch, I asked my dear friend, Joanna (Read her blog as well! You’ll learn a lot!) to help me with some of the pages so there is a bit of mixed art, but I feel as though it still looks wonderful.
My sequel follows the adventure of the two best friends, Alexander and Willy. The moral of the first book is much different from my version, but they both sit in the ‘Nice is the way to go’ kind of category. In my book, the owners of the home Alex and Willy are living in get a cat, and they need to learn how to live with it. In the end, the moral of the story is ‘Never judge someone from their appearance’ which is a semi-fancy way to say ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’.
