Transgender and nonbinary students want you to know: PRONOUNS MATTER!!! (Pronoun Resource)

Important Terminology:

  • gender identity – a person’s innate psychological identification
  • gender expression – a person’s behavior, mannerisms, interests, and appearance that are associated with genderĀ in a particular cultural context, specifically with the categories of femininity or masculinity
  • transgender – umbrella term for people whose gender identity and/or gender expression differs from their assigned sex at birth
  • cisgender, cissexual – people whose gender identity and gender expression align with their assigned sex at birh
  • nonbinary – also known as genderqueer, people who identify as nonbinary have identities that are not exclusively masculine or feminine
