Out of My Mind Chapters 4-5

In Melody’s school days, she does not like the snow man that they bring out every year. Melody tell us about her class room and her friends/students. In Melody’s classroom there are a big sun with a face. Also, in Melodys classroom there are Flowers. Melody classmates all have disability. Melody talk about how she is smarter than the other students in her class. Melody talks about how she has a word board that has words. She can point to the words with her thumbs. Melody talk about that one day she is in class and there doing the ABC’s and she has a break down and starts to yell.  Next her mom has to come in and help her calm down. Her Mom was asking the teacher what happened. The teacher said we were reviewing the ABC’s. Her mom said “in March”. Then she gave the teacher 5 bucks and snap the disc.

Out of My Mind Chapters 12-13

In Chapters 12-13 I think Rose didn’t have a good time because she saw Molly and Clare. I think Rose lied because she was upset that Molly and Clare were also there. Rose got made fun of by Molly and Clare that she was there with Melody. Melody here Rose say “It’s not that bad.” Rose said it in a small voice so, Melody wouldn’t hear her.Then Mrs.V overheard the girls talking. Mrs. V step in and ask the girls what they they were talking about. Mrs. V roasted one of the girls. Melody day wasn’t as bad but, I think she’s upset at Rose.

Out Of My Mind Chapters 14-16

In chapters 14-16 Melody gets a Medi-Talker computer. This changes Melody life because she can talk now. I think the outlook in Melody’s life because Melody can communicate with her family, Mrs.V, Teachers, ETC. Melody is very excited to try the Medi-Talker. Melody has to wait for a long time for the Medi-Talker. Then one day after school when Mrs. V saw the UPS truck pull into Melody’s driveway.  Mrs. V signed the package and took into her house. When Melody got home from school Mrs. V and Melody started to work on he Medi-Talker. Melody and Mrs. V add words for the whole day.When Melody’s parents come home from work they want to here Melody say her first words. Melody father films her saying her first words with her Medi-Talker.

Non Verbal Conversation: Reflection

In this activity my partner and I could not speak. We had was a talking board. We each had to Write 50 words in the boxes.  After we did a sentence using our thumbs to point st the words we had to write down the sentence on a piece of paper. I think the reason we did this activity is to be in Melody shoes.  I think Melody would rather talk then move because so her family, friends, doctors, and teachers could understand her.

Some of the words that I chose in my word board were Hi my name is Cole, Please, thank you/no thank you, and may I have help. The reason I choose this words/phrases is i have to tell people my name. I need to have good manners. Also, when I can’t do all things I will need to ask for help. If i did this activity again I would put numbers 1-10 because I was studying for a math quiz. I would also try to add more phrases because its multiple words in one.

In Out Of My Mind Melody was very frustrated because he teachers and family didn’t know what she was trying to say and then she would get mad.  In my opinion this activity was very frustrated but you got used to it so, it was more easy. It was very weird because I didn’t talk for a long time. The only problem with the communication board is I need more words to use and need to get rid of some words.  The reason I need to get rid of words was to I had words that i would never use for the activity.

Now I know how Melody feels when she doesn’t have any communication. Melody struggles with a lot of things in life and she somehow finds a way through it. I think wehn Mrs. V expanded her vocab on her board I think Melody was very happy. I think her parents will find out new words for her and that will make her a smarter person.
