Sometimes it can feel really hard to find the time to read. If your teacher wants you to read for 20 or 30 minutes a day, you don’t necessarily have to do it all at once. Maybe it’s easier to find the time to read for 15 minutes at two different times a day than it is to read for 30 minutes straight. One of the best ways to make sure you are ready when those 15 or 20 minute opportunities happen is to always have a book with you, and instead of surfing the internet or texting your friends in those small windows of time, read the book you brought.
Reading eBooks makes it super easy to always have a book with you. If you have the free MackinVIA app on your cell phone, you can check out one of our many MackinVIA eBooks or digital audiobooks. You can even download them to your device while connected to wifi if you’re using the app so you don’t use your data when you’re away from home. MackinVIA will remember your place, so you can then pick up reading on your Chromebook, tablet, or laptop at home. Hoopla Digital and the Libby app from Loudoun County Public Library are also great options for eBooks on the go!
You can read on a plane, on a train, on a boat, or in the car, just make sure it won’t make you motion sick.
You can even read sitting in a basket if that’s what makes you happy!
You can read by yourself, or if you’ve got one, sometimes it’s fun to read aloud to a sibling. Or a pet. Or a parent. Or the wall.
It’s also a good idea to have a plan for what to read next. Have the book you’re currently reading, and another book ready to go as soon as you finish the first one.
This is a strange time we’re living in right now, and even though I love to read, sometimes I find it hard to focus on a book. There’s nothing wrong with using audiobooks to get out of a reading rut. I like to put an audiobook on my iPod or cell phone and listen to it while I take a walk or have one playing in the car when I’m driving somewhere. Audiobooks are really great to listen to on long car trips. You can pick an audiobook the whole family will enjoy! In MackinVIA, you can apply the audiobook filter to make it easier to browse just our audiobook selection. Hoopla Digital and the Libby app from Loudoun County Public Library also have great audiobook selections.
