Music: Remix by Basiah Bryant

From the composer: My music piece “Remix” was a piece I made when I was 13. It was inspired by a time in my life when I was losing hope. It was a very different reflection of how I was actually feeling: Happiness contrary to the deep sadness I actually felt. Overall most of my music is actually based on Japanese Anime music. I began my musical journey around 10 when I used GarageBand to make music. My mom was my immediate inspiration but I always used to listen to Japanese music and loved it. So naturally when I was bored with nothing else to do while I was homeschooled, I began to study Japanese music (yes I am self taught) and was able to replicate it on Garageband, which I still use to make music to this day, and I used it for Remix as well. Goes to show a free software can make some good dang music 🙂

I also think it’s funny to mention that I do not know music theory. I make music by ear. You can do anything if you try! I’m not sure where I want to go with my music. I’ve considered college, but I’m a bit afraid. Heh… I don’t know. I can say this, whatever whoever reading this decides to do in their lives, make sure it’s something you love. Because I’ll tell you one thing: Life it self is a hustle and bustle. Working fast food can be just as stressful as being a military officer. Make sure you love it! Not sure if I’ll love music as a career. But I can see it as a side hustle as I work to become something I actually enjoy.

Music: Live Five by Basiah Bryant

About the piece:

“Live Five” was a music of piece made on a music software called Auxy. I shifted to this software for a brief time in my music composition because the drums were more impactful.

Interestingly enough, the app did have a subscription, however I stayed on the demo and still ended up making exceptional music, such as Live Five.  Live Five in particular was a music piece meant to sound like pop music. I was probably also attempting Japanese pop as well—- but it did not end up sounding that way 😅Nonetheless, it sounds fine.
You can listen to the piece here:

Musical composition: Desolation by Kelsan Giamporcaro

Inspired by music by John Coltrane and Freddie Hubbard

Takeaway: Nothing really, I just like the way it sounds. I have a full arrangement for jazz combo, this is just a piano reduction.

Kelsan Giamporcaro, Junior at LCHS, composes and plays music for paid gigs and hopes to sell compositions and albums one day.

“Circle (3.14159)” by Rick Ricci

Circle, circle there’s something about you
You have a way of creating a value
Take your circumference and divide it by diameter d
Now you get a number that occurs irrationally
Circle I got your number
I think it’s really fine
Circle I got your number
3.14159 (3.14159)
3.14159 (3.14159)
Circle, circle you make me so anxious
Pi has decimal digits so numerous
Try to find the end and you’ll start to get really upset
No one has been able to do it now, I have to regret
Circle I got your number
I think it’s really fine
Circle I got your number

“Longer, Flip, or a Slide” by Rick Ricci

It’s all the same, only the names are changed
I’d have to say it seems they’re related some way
Another kid with some traits that are quite close
To its parent’s graph from head to toes

It’s a function, on a coordinate plane it lies
Stretched longer, flip, or a slide
Longer, flip, or a slide

Sometimes it’s steep, sometimes it bends away
Decreases and peaks, be it curves or lines or rays
Sometimes you tell the ends by the function’s known degree
Sometimes it makes a “u” and occasionally a “v”

It’s a function, on a coordinate plane it lies
Stretched longer, flip, or a slide
Longer, flip, or a slide

If subtraction’s inside the group, the function slides off to the right
But instead if it’s outside, the function decreases in height
Place a negative in front and the function’s upside down
A big number for the a, and it stretches up, I found

It’s a function, on a coordinate plane it lies
Stretched longer, flip, or a slide
Longer, flip, or a slide •
