Salar de Uyuni by Basiah Bryant
As the Moon shows her cheeks
And the Sun hides his face
The ground comes alive
Into mellow bouncing solace
As the skies paint the ground
And the whole world shown upside down We fall and lay
To admire the setting of rain’s forte.
The colors bounce
The lights dance
The floor billows
And the clouds speak
The ground stretches
The surface disappears
And the clouds say
“Come this way”
We chase the clouds because we ca
We run across air because land is nowhere We run for oblivion because destinations are gone We touch the sky because the sky’s on our knees
However, we realize
As the Sun sinks away
And the clouds change their souls
And break away from our pulse
That we never were connected
And the clouds were not below
And the horizon was not infinite
And the land nor in neverland
The ground is life, a lie if you may
It gives false comfort in times of desperation. It steals reality and morphs and twists
And turns the land of Salar into mist
However, as the moon rises above and below And smiles with her bright blemished cheeks She reminds of us
the other side
Which we know is the side
the sky repeats
Infinitely.
The yin and yang of life
The reflection of sides to sides
The Serenity Sun
The Monument Moon
When opposites meet, they intertwine into one. As seen and said
On Uyunis level home
After looking above and below
And seeing both are the same.
We know now, life is neither true nor false. She is a mystery and a harmony
A distortion but a beauty
A confusion but a safespace
A safespace of her comfort
A Salar de Uyuni…
