The Maldives are a group of islands in the Indian Ocean. They are atolls, which means they are a type of reef. The Maldives are known for their beaches, blue lagoons, and coral reefs. There are 187 species of forming on the coral reefs. There are over a thousand species of fish. Other species like sea turtles, whales, dolphins, mollusks, echinoderms, and crustaceans live in the waters around these islands. The Maldives are famous for their bioluminescent beaches. At night, the beaches glow in the dark from the bioluminescent plankton that live there. These organisms create light by producing a chemical called luciferins. The plankton that reside on the
Maldives beaches, called dinoflagellates, produces luciferins on their own.
Just imagine strolling down a beach and witness this natural phenomena. To see the waves roll in and see an ocean of glowing stars is truly amazing/breathtaking. I want to go to this place because I want to experience the unusual happenings of the earth. There are of course other locations where bioluminescence occurs, but in the Maldives, it is certain that it will occur every night.
