Podcast Analysis: how Robots will Change our Workplace

I chose a podcast from Workology called “How Robots & Artificial Intelligence Will Change Our Workplace”, by Jessica Miller-Merrell. This podcast goes over a couple of the main questions about this topic including: the adaptation rates of robots in workplaces and which industry will be impacted first. This podcast supports their claims with evidence in the form of statistics that will be very helpful further down the line explaining my thesis. For example on the topic adaptation rates, they stated “38% of companies believe AI and robotics will be fully implemented in their company within 5 years and even more.” The other question they discussed: which industry will be affected first, is a very important question that no one really discusses. They answered this question by stating that Industries like transportation, logistics, the legal profession, and even journalism will be impacted more quickly than others. The podcast goes on to explain how HR will be the “champion of change” because companies will rely on HR to help them make the transition. Overall this podcast was very informative and it gave lots of evidence to further my thesis.

I really like the topic you chose to research but I also think it´s really sad to hear how much technology is going to replace humans in the workplace. It is already happening at a rapid pace today with more and more self checkouts in stores and other electronic devices that are replacing peoples jobs. Also with Amazon people are shopping in person less which means we may get to a point where shopping in person isn’t relevant anymore.

Due me having family involved in the transportation industry, I think about your topic a lot. They have been saying for years that the trucking industry is the first to go when robots take over. Even self check out is taking away jobs from store workers. I ask you, do you think that these workplace advancements with the use of robots will do more harm than good? I’m excited to see more, keep up the good work!
