CHROMOKOPIA is Tyler, The Creator’s eighth studio album, filled with features from ScHoolboy Q, Lil Wayne, Daniel Caesar, Teezo Touchdown, and more. After the release of his previous three albums, Tyler continues to prove his consistency in making music.
The album consists of 14 songs, each one with Tyler’s own unique production. The album consists of hard-hitting bangers such as “Rah Tah Tah”, “Thought I Was Dead”, and “Sticky,” while also displaying more meaningful songs such as “Darling, I”, “Tomorrow”, “Like Him”, and many more.
Tyler touches on themes of his artistic ambition and his upbringing in life, and these themes are depicted through the protagonist, St. Chroma, who is introduced in the opening track, “St. Chroma”. CHROMOKOPIA is described by critics as an early midlife crisis album revolving around the concerns young adults have over growing up and transitioning into adulthood.
Tyler discusses the themes mentioned above as the album progresses while also displaying his unique beat selection and lyrical ability. Every song on the album is solid if not better. There are a mix of excitement-filled songs and lyrical-heavy songs, making this album worth a listen for any avid hip-hop fan. This album is most similar to IGOR because of the approach of implementing other genres into a hip-hop album. However, it also combines the rapping ability and flow from CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST and Flower Boy, making this an overall very well-rounded album.
