The Holiday Plant Sale is an annual event hosted by the Academies’ greenhouse, commencing from December 2nd to 4th, 10 AM to 5 PM. Similar to the fall plant sale, the plants sold are especially for the winter season. Poinsettias, with their red pointed flowers, are the most common plants sold for $16, a staple for Christmas decorations.
Other bestsellers include the Christmas Cactus and the herbs, prized to their inability to be killed. In addition to the potted plants, festive flower arrangements like candle lights surrounded by delicate pine that embed tiny stone birds and wreaths are also available. The plant sale also makes a conscious effort to repurpose material by selling baskets of dried flowers, and samples of pressed flowers. Furthermore, the unsold material will be a part of a new compost initiative taking place in the Plant Science classes.

Some of the many young poinsettias (top left), and herbs (top right) for sale. Arrangements (bottom row) are hand-made by the students.
The event is hosted by the students from Plant Science and Bio Tech classes, a part of the MATA pathway. The plant sale is supported by the Future Farmers Association (FFA), which also supports the students through a scholarship fund.Â
