Greetings Academies of Loudoun families,
We would like to update you on the TREX Bags to Benches program and thank you for your efforts in helping us earn twelve benches over the past seven years while keeping plastic from polluting our environment. To date, we have collected over 7,000 pounds of plastic and are continuing our efforts to recycle. Please collect your plastic film and bags (no plastic bottles) and send your plastic in with your students where they can drop them in the specially-labelled TREX receptacles found throughout the building, or the plastic can be brought directly to room 1303. The plastic may include the following, but must be clean, dry, and free of food residue (please note that some items are no longer accepted and are found in a second list below highlighted in red):
These items are accepted:
- grocery bags
- bread bags
- case overwrap
- dry cleaning bags
- newspaper sleeves
- ice bags
- wood pellet bags
- Ziploc and other reclosable bags
- produce bags
- bubble wrap
- salt bags
- cereal bags
- shipping wrap
- Plastic films labeled with #2 or #4 recycling symbol (polyethylene films)
These items are no longer accepted:
- frozen food bags
- candy bar wrappers
