The ever-luminous sunlight beamed through the numerous windows as twenty-seven A-day and B-day students alike congregated in the main lobby of The Academies building far before the start of the school day. Each student was patiently waiting for the bus that would drive them to their field trip destination: the Aviation Education and Career Expo.
On Friday, November 4th, these students were transported to an Aviation Expo taking place at the Leesburg Executive Airport. More than twenty high schools were present to enjoy this action-packed event. Between the 9 AM to 2 PM event, students were exposed to multiple aviation-related events, including vendors, aircraft displays, industry leaders, demonstrations, guest speakers, and scholarships.
In addition to a performance from the Navy National Guard on stage, there was a performance high in the skies. The Golden Knights, the official parachute team of the United States, exhibited spectacular stunts thousands of feet in the air. Students watched as a speaker explained the Knights’ actions as they landed right in front of the students’ eyes.
Students also got the opportunity to explore some of the private jets, helicopters, and planes that were used by the military.
Many vendors were also present at the expo, allowing students to get a glimpse into military and internship opportunities, as well as view electric simulations and gain information about well-known aviation companies.
There were over $130,000 scholarship awards that were presented at the expo for college tuition, flight training, and other monetary awards. Four lucky Academies students were also chosen for the scholarships.
In the eyes of the Aviation Education and Career Expo Committee this event was a success. Students that attended left with a full backpack and a smile on their faces. Their dreams were about ready to take flight.
