Mystery – 290 – Published 2012

Stuart Gibbs really did it again with this great mystery novel. Ben Ripley get invited to spy school because of his great cryptography and math skills. What Ben doesn’t know is that he is being used to uncover a mole in the school. I could not put this book down. Each time I suspected someone as the mole new evidence proved against it. Ben’s character really evolved throughout the book and the ended topped it of. The plot flowed and had me genuinely excited to keep turning the page. This first book was a great start to the series and I am definitely going to read the next book. 1/3/19

I rate this book 4.5/5 because of the great plot.

Book Club Reflection

What i liked about our book club was the manage mats because it made everyone share and participate. I also like our book it was good for discussing because there was a lot of inferencing to do. Everyone read the book and asked questions. I wouldn’t change anything because it went really well.

Third Book Club Meeting

Today we had our third book club meeting. This was our final book club meeting as we had all finished the book. We talked a lot about how we all liked the book overall and about how it ended. We all liked the book but we thought the book ended on a cliffhanger. It didn’t tell us who SPYDER was and why Murray worked for them. One of my open-ended questions was, “Do you think Ben actually considered joining the SPYDER Organization and why?” One of the answers was Ben considered joining to be a double spy and report back to the CIA. Everyone else said that he didn’t hesitate at all and just said no. My second short answer question was, “Why do you think Murray wanted to blow up the school?” We all agreed it was just a mission for the SPYDER Organization and we don’t know why they wanted him to do it. For the last meeting it went really well and everyone participated.

Second book club meeting

Today we had our second book club meeting. We read up to the 16th chapter. Each meeting we are supposed to write two open ended questions. My two questions were, “How do you think Ben felt after he was told he really wasn’t chosen for spy school?” and “Who do you think the mole is and who do they work for?” For the first question we all said that he probably felt disappointed and sad because he was expecting to be a famous spy like James Bond. He was told that he had crazy IQ and crazy math and cryptography skills and then he is told that he is just part of a plan of the CIA. For the second question most of us thought that Warren was the spy because so far in the book he was acting suspicious and up in Ben’s business. One comment that was interesting was Shreys. Shrey said that he thought the mole was Murry because he was so laid back but still wanted to be friends with Ben. The meeting went really well and everyone contributed a lot. We all asked really good questions and at the end we understood the book much better.

First book club meeting

Today we had our first book club meeting. Me and my group are reading a book called Spy School by Stuart Gibbs. Every other class we have a meeting. We had to read the first 70 pages of the book and in our meeting we discussed and asked questions about it. One of the questions was on page 28 “what do you think Ben Ripley’s first reaction to being chosen to become a spy was?” Alex answered, “I think he was shocked because he didn’t think he had what it took to become a spy.” Clint added on and said, ” I think he was shocked as well because he wasn’t expecting the offer.” I said, ” I think that Ben was really excited because he could train to be just like James Bond.” Shrey thought that Ben’s first reaction was scared because spys go behind enemy lines and could be killed. Finally Nico said, “I think his first reaction was excited because before his life was bland and boring but if he goes to spy school then his life will be a lot more exciting.” We had a few more discussions and overall the meeting went very well.
