OCDaniel Reflection

OCDaniel was an okay book. 13 year old Daniel feels crazy, he only has one friend named Max and is always scared to talk to his crush, Raya. Daniel wishes he could be normal and tries not to do his zaps like flipping light switches and not writing the number 3, because it makes him feel mentally wrong. He meets a girl, Sara, who lives alone with her single mother. Sara has the same condition as Max but worse. Sara believes that John, her mom’s boyfriend, killed her dad. They go on a quest to figure out who killed Sara’s dad. I think I would have liked the book better if it wasn’t so boring so they could add more conflicts and the plot wasn’t moving. I only would recommend to read this book to learn about OCD, otherwise it’s a waste of time. January 3, 2019

Book Club Meeting #2

The book my group is reading is called OCDaniel by Welsey King. Today in my book club Katie, Olivia, and I read about a boy with OCD that hopes no one notices that he might be crazy, until he’s pulled into a mystery. We wrote questions on our sticky notes that we would discuss in class. One of my questions was why did Daniel flip the switch at the dance? Those are one of his strange habits that he calls zaps- like not writing the number four, switching light switches, and counting steps. Another sticky note I had was why would Daniel go with Sarah? Daniel was interested to find out and investigate the mystery to the murder of Sara’s dad. They find a lot of evidence and clues so far in our section 2 of the book. Up to this point, OCDaniel is a pretty good book.
