Realistic Fiction – 222 pages – Published 2016

Towers Falling by Jewell Parker Rhodes is a book about 9/11. The main character Deja who’s in 5th grade, wants to learn more about 9/11 because her father gets mad when she brings it up. Her father is ill and her mother is a waitress,  so they live in homeless shelter. When Deja moves to a new school she makes two new friends, Sabeen and Ben. Her teacher hints stuff about 9/11 to Dejas class, Ben shows her what happened during 9/11 because she wanted to know. When her father finds out, he wants her to transfer to another school. Deja wonders why he father is so protective about 9/11 and tries to find out. This book is really good, and I recommend this book, if you like suspense then this book is good for you. This book teaches you more about 9/11 and shares how people were affected.

Book club meeting #3 /// Towers Falling

In this book club meeting we discussed why Pop changed his opinions about 9/11, we said it’s because Deja explained to him and learned more about it. Another question was why do you think the kids were so sensitive about the 9/11 topic. We said it’s because they did not understand it completely and if they did understand it, then they would understand it and they wouldn’t be so sensitive.

Book club meeting 2!

During our book club meeting, one question I asked was “Why did Deja stop talking as much.” I got a couple different answers. The one I was thinking of was “She went homeless, so she isn’t as happy and social anymore.” If she didn’t go homeless I think she would still be social, since she isn’t social she doesn’t have a lot of friends. Deja’s life just went downhill since she stopped talking.
