Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile

A few days ago, Netflix released a new film telling the crazy story of Ted Bundy and his girlfriend of 6 years, Elizabeth (Liz) Kloepfer. Starring Zac Efron and Lily Collins, the movie goes through their love story and shows how Liz was affected during Ted’s multiple arrests and trials. Zac Efron’s acting was incredible; he was able erase the thoughts of Troy Bolton from my head and show how convincing, intelligent, and insane Ted Bundy was. This movie kept me interested the whole time and I 10/10 recommend.

Don’t Spoil the Endgame!!!

For the past two weeks, everyone has been talking about the final Avengers movie and scrambling to get tickets before each show sells out. Social media has been full of posts about the movie while hashtags saying #dontspoiltheendgame also became widely popular. Endgame takes place right after the end of the third Avengers movie, Infinity War, but then skips to 5 years later in the beginning of the movie. It is filled with the perfect amount of comedy and action, and it is definitely a film worth seeing. I absolutely love Marvel movies, and I think Endgame is the best one yet, so go get your tickets before it gets spoiled!

Here We Go Again!

As you may know, my last blog post was about the original Mamma Mia movie. From my comments, I saw that many people loved that movie, so I decided to talk about the sequel. Mamma Mia 2 came out this past summer and everyone who has seen the first one was scrambling to go watch it. It takes place a few years later and continuously switches back from the past and present. In the present, Sophie has redone her mother’s small hotel and is having a grand re-opening. She invited all her old friends and her three “dads” to come visit the island. In the past, it shows the story of a young version of her mother, Donna, meeting each one of Sophie’s possible fathers and discovering herself in her post-college years. This movie includes some of the amazing songs from the first movie along with some new ones. I thought the sequel was just as amazing as the first movie, and I highly recommend watching it!

Instant Family

I highly recommend seeing this family friendly movie with Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne. It is a heartwarming story about a married couple deciding to foster/adopt three children. It shows the reality of the struggles but also the love of building a family. The kids show a lot of resistance at first, but they grow to love their new parents. There is a good balance of humor and seriousness throughout the movie, so it is not too dorky or sad. I really enjoyed this movie and would suggest it to anyone who is looking for a cute family movie to watch.

Get the Code, Escape the Room

Escape Room is a new movie that came out in theaters a couple weeks ago. It is a thriller about six people who sign up to do an escape room to win money, but it turns out the rooms are dangerous and they will die if they don’t escape. Each one of the characters is a lone survivor from a trauma they experienced, and the game knows everything about them. The rooms are designed to mess with them and includes details from their pasts.

I honestly did not like this movie very much. It was very disturbing and weird, and it wasn’t scary enough for me to stay interested. The ending was not very satisfying and it left a lot of things unanswered. The whole plot was kind of ridiculous to me. The details of the movie were well thought out, but I did not like the way it was executed. I love escape rooms but I personally did not enjoy this film.

Bandersnatch

Bandersnatch is a Black Mirror film that came out on Netflix over break. It is about a young man in 1984 who is on the journey of making his own interactive computer game called “Bandersnatch”. The film itself is also interactive and there are many choices you get to make as the viewer throughout the movie. It is very interesting because there are multiple different endings to the film depending on the choices you make.

The only thing that annoyed me about this movie was that some of the endings were a lot better than the others. The first one I watched made me so angry due to how unsatisfying it was, but the second one I watched was a lot better and answered more questions. Almost everyone I’ve talked to has a different opinion on this movie depending on the ending they got. I am a fan of a lot of the Black Mirror episodes, so this was pretty exciting to me. Some of the people who star in Bandersnatch are Fionn Whitehead, Will Poulter, and Alice Lowe. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes Black Mirror or shows like it and who is looking for something fun to do.

Hint: choose “chop up dad”, it leads to the best ending!

Don’t Open Your Eyes!

Bird Box came out on Netflix before winter break and has been the source of talk over the holidays. Sandra Bullock stars in it as Malorie, and it is a thrilling story about how an evil force takes over the world and causes anyone who sees it to kill themselves. Malorie is pregnant when everything begins to happen, and the movie jumps between the present, which is 5 years after the evil strikes, and a series of events from the past. In the present, Malorie is on a journey on a river with two children to get to a safe place, but they have to keep blindfolds on the whole time. 

I personally did not like this movie that much. It was interesting but the plot was very flat and the whole movie was predictable. It also had some pretty disturbing scenes, and it wasn’t scary enough for me to be intrigued. However, the thing I disliked the most about the movie was that it left so many things unanswered. This is my pet peeve when it comes to movies, so I would not really want to watch it again.

Jonathan

I watched this movie over Thanksgiving break and it left me thinking for days. This sci-fi  movie “Jonathan” is about someone who has single body multi consciousness. There are two brothers living inside of one man, portrayed by Ansel Elgort. One of the brother’s name is Jonathan who is awake from 7am to 7pm, and the other brother, Jon, is awake from 7pm to 7am. They communicate by making videos for the other to watch when they are awake. The movie documents Jonathan’s life and shows the struggles he faced each day but also highlights the love he has for Jon. The brothers have a certain set of rules that they have to follow in order to stay functioning, such as a certain sleep schedule and no girlfriends. However, Jon ends up dating this girl named Elena who brings many complications to the brothers’ routine. The brothers begin to fight and both of their lives start to go downhill throughout the movie.

This movie was very interesting but it was slow at times. I wish it had a little bit of a faster pace and a more exciting ending. The ending was pretty dry in my opinion, but it did leave me thinking about the science behind it and the other things that could’ve happened.

Bohemian Rhapsody is the new movie that shows the epic story of the band Queen and their lead singer Freddie Mercury. It begins with showing how Freddie meets the rest of the band members and then follows their career taking off. The movie highlights the hardships that Queen faced, how the four men became a family, and the details of Freddie Mercury’s life and sexuality. Also, Queen has amazing music that is played and performed throughout the movie that makes you just want to get up and sing along. This was a very powerful movie and I would HIGHLY recommend going to see it in theaters!

A Star is Born

This exciting movie came out at the beginning of October and has been a common source of conversation for over a month now.  This movie shows a very moving story about a famous male singer (portrayed by Bradley Cooper) who meets a woman in a bar (portrayed by Lady Gaga) with an amazing singing voice.  He takes her out and brings her on stage at one of his gigs, where she is discovered and her career takes off. The two fall in love, and the movie follows their life story and shows the ups and downs of relationships and careers.

This is a very well filmed movie with an excellent soundtrack, but it does have a very upsetting ending. I loved the movie up until the last 20 minutes, and the ending left me thinking about the movie for days. This movie was extremely powerful and well written and I would recommend going to see it in theaters while you still can!
