Freedom Golf Makes States

Freedom golf places 2nd at 5c North Regionals.

For the first time in school history the golf team has qualified for states. On Tuesday, Oct. 1,  FHS faced off against seven schools including Riverside, Rock Ridge, Thomas Jefferson, Potomac Falls, Stone Bridge, Briar Woods and Woodgrove for the 5C Regional Championship. The competition took place at the par 72 Greg Norman course at Lansdowne Golf Club.

FHS finished second in the eight-team tournament shooting a combined team total of 314. The leading scorers for FHS were senior George Clark (72), senior Daniel Pirko (80), junior Reed Hadsell (81), and freshman Rishi Sundaresan (81).

This has been a very strong season for the golf team, as they went undefeated in conference play. During a match against Stone Bridge’s Clark set a school record with a put from 35 feet away. The team shot a 150 which tied a school record. Clark contributed to the scoring with a 31 along with junior Billy Adkins (37), freshman Shelly Bajpai (41), and Sundaresan (41).

FHS will compete in the 5a state tournament on Oct. 14 and 15 at Magnolia Green Golf Club in Moseley, VA.
