Freedom runs in Cross Country State Championships

The VHSL State Cross Country Championships took place on Saturday, Nov. 10. States took place at Great Meadows Foundation in Fauquier County, Virginia. Due to constant raining the previous weeks, the course was wet and muddy, forcing runners to compete through the bad conditions.

The Freedom boys cross country team qualified for states as a team by placing second at regionals. FHS boys finished fifth overall for division 5A, and senior Sam Koltisko placed 12th individually.

The varsity girls team ended up running all of their alternates after losing three of their runners. The girls team ended up getting fourth place overall, one place away from qualifying for states, while sophomores Abby Church and Maya Porter were able to qualify individually. Due to a hip injury, Porter was unable to race in the state meet, but Sophomore Abby Church placed sixth individually.

VHSL State Cross Country Championships marks the end of the cross country season.
