exploring the world one day at a time

Palawan, Philippines

For the first time in almost ten years, my family had decided to take the 35+ hour trip to the Philippines. In order to reach our final destination we had gone through six airports, five time changes, and four different countries (and plenty of layovers). After about two full days of traveling we had reached the small island of Palawan and begun our two week stay in a place my parents had once called home.

Since those two weeks had consisted of many different activities, I’d like to focus on one event at a time. As my family’s unofficial ‘planner’ for vacations, I had found an easy hike that came with beautiful waterfalls–Kuyawyaw Falls. Under the trees the heat subsided, but accompanied with the humidity we found ourselves eager to get in the water.

Out of three waterfalls my favorite had been the last; the water was brisk and it was more secluded. The way that the trees hung over the falls caused the light to hit the water in a way that the water became clear and bluish-green. Out of the small handful of hikes I’ve been on, I’d have to say that Kuyawyaw Falls is one of my favorites.
