Why the Rockets are the Favorites to Win the NBA Championship

Hello everyone, and welcome back to the Super Sreepal Blog! This week I will be talking about how the Rockets have the best chance of winning the 2018 NBA playoffs.

Steph Curry is back and the Warriors are killing the Pelicans. But we can’t forget about the Rockets all too soon. They as a whole completely outperformed every other team on the sheer shot creating abilities of James Harden and Chris Paul. The duo has multiple shooters, defensive players, and an extremely underrated big man(Clint Capela) as their supporting cast.

The Rockets had a 65-17 record and are up 3-1 against the Jazz and still are not looked at as the favorites to winning the NBA Championship which I feel they should be.  Even with James Harden missing significant time due to injury the Rockets didn’t miss a beat and continued to be head and shoulders above the whole NBA. I truly believe the Rockets have hit gold with their mix of star players and supporting cast, which is extremely hard to do with star players in the NBA, which was shown by how the OKC Thunder’s big 3 blew up and lost in the first round of the NBA playoffs.

The main reason for the Rockets success is obviously Harden and Paul but supporting players like Eric Gordon and Clint Capela do not get nearly enough credit for the Rockets continued success throughout Harden’s absence. Capela averaged 13 points and 10 rebounds on 65% shooting and had multiple big games during the season. He is only 23 and looks to be a huge presence under the basket in the NBA for years to come. Eric Gordon has been the best sixth man in the league outside of Lou Williams throughout the whole season. He averaged an extremely quiet 18 points and served to stretch the floor for James Harden and Chris Paul to run pick and rolls and dribble-drive.

Baker Mayfield at #1? Recent Updates on the NFL Draft

Hello everyone, and welcome back to the Super Sreepal Blog. This week we will be discussing the NFL draft and the recent speculation surrounding who will be the #1 overall pick in the draft.

Baker Mayfield at number one?

Recent rumors have been passed around that the Cleveland Browns will select Baker Mayfield with the #1 overall pick in this years draft. Baker has been project from everywhere from #1 pick to in the teens but I believe he will be a top 5 pick because he is the most polished quarterback in the draft and the only thing he lacks is size while having all the other attributes necessary to be a great quarterback in the NFL.

Why Saquon Barkley is still the #1 overall pick

It is very simple really, Saquon Barkley is the best runningback prospect since Adrian Peterson. His strength is a major plus and he also runs a 4.4 40 yard dash which means he can be elusive whilst also powering right through defenders. I believe he should be the #1 pick because as a runningback, I still think that he can make as much if not more of an impact than the quarterback prospects in this years draft.

Thank you for reading the Super Sreepal Blog, I will be back next week with an update on the results of the drafts and giving each team in the top 10 a grade on their draft choice.

Post-Combine NFL Mock Draft

Hello everyone, and welcome back to the Super Sreepal Blog. This week I will be covering a post combine mock draft that I made and the reasoning behind each pick.

1.Cleveland Browns- Saquon Barkley(Penn State) RB

At #1 and #4 pick the Browns cannot go wrong with selecting one of the strongest most explosive athletes the NFL has ever seen with their first pick.

2.New York Giants- Bradley Chubb(NC State) DE

The Giant’s defense struggled mightily last year and adding one of the best pash rushers in college football can only help, but don’t be surprised if they pick a quarterback, Eli Manning may push for a trade or retire soon.

3.Indianapolis Colts- Minkah Fitzpatrick(Alabama) CB/S

It seems like the colts will keep Andrew Luck as their starting quarterback, so drafting the top DB in the draft seems like a good option to help strengthen a mediocre to horrible pass defense.

4.Cleveland Browns(From Texans)- Baker Mayfield(Oklahoma) QB

The Cleveland Browns have taken many gambles with off-field issues on many of their picks. Baker Mayfield seems like a much safer pick than Johny Manziel. Mayfield was also the best QB stats-wise in this draft class, though many NFL experts have had him drop down draft boards due to his size.

5.Denver Broncos- Josh Rosen(UCLA) QB

This pick is really a no brainer, with the Broncos only position of need being a QB. I think of Rosen as the third best QB prospect in this draft, and maybe he can take the Broncos to the playoffs in his first year.

6. New York Jets-Sam Darnold(USC) QB

Darnold is one of the Qbs with the most upside in this draft according to most NFL experts. Although New York’s media frenzy will not be a good environment to start his career, if he can excel through it I think he has a chance to be one of the best passers in this league.

7.Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Josh Allen(Wyoming) QB

Jameis Winston just hasn’t led the Buccaneers to a playoffs, so I would say bring him some competition to either have Winston improve his level of play or have Allen come in and take the starting role if Winston cannot win games and take this team to a playoff seed.

8.Chicago Bears- Connor Williams(Texas) OT

The Chicago Bears are working with a young quarterback and two young runningbacks in Mitch Trubisky, Jordan Howard, and Tarik Cohen. With their new addition of star Jaguars wideout Allen Robinson, this young offense looks to be explosive in every area outside of their offensive line. By adding a solid offensive tackle they can help contain this weakness and give Trubisky more time to throw the ball.

9. San Francisco 49ers – Denzel Ward(Ohio State University)

The 49ers have added many pieces and now have a great offense headed by Jimmy Garrapolo, but they need more defensive players in order to become a playoff contending team and adding the second best defensive back in the draft is a great way to strengthen a weak passing defense.

10- Oakland Raiders – Derrius Gulce(LSU)RB

You might be asking why I would have the Raiders picking a runningback when Hall of Famer Marshawn Lynch is the starting tailback of this team. It is because Marshawn is getting older(31 years old) and needs rest at times when he is on the field. Another reason is because Derrius Gulce can learn a LOT from “Beastmode”. Both of them play with a fearless trucking style of running with the ball and if Derrius can pick up Marshawn’s work ethic and knowledge of the game during his first 1-2 years in the league and then become the starting tailback, he will easily become a superstar at his position.

That is all for today’s blog, see you next time!

The Super Bowl: How benching Malcolm Butler cost the Patriots the Superbow

Hello everyone,

As we all know the Eagles won Super Bowl 52 41-33 knocking the defending champions, the New England Patriots off their pedestal and winning the first Super Bowl in Philadelphia history. Although the Patriots stayed close for most of the game, a crucial fumble by Tom Brady cost them a chance to drive down the field and tie the game up. The biggest question mark of the game was the benching of former All-pro corner Malcolm Butler who only played one special teams snap the whole game.

Pictured above is Patriots cornerback Malcom Butler(21)

Bill Belicheck refuses to tell the media why he benched Butler but due to his benching, Butler will most likely look to leave to a team where he feels his presence is valued. We all remember Malcolm’s interception that one the Patriots a Super Bowl title and he is a very dynamic corner who I believe would be a starter on all but 3 NFL teams. Malcolm released a statement saying he never violated any team rules to lead to his benching, so it must have been a decision by Belicheck. Eric Rowe started over him at Corner and gave up 75 yards and a touchdown to Alshon Jeffrey. Rowe usually is limited to special teams play but I feel he played decent in coverage on Sunday. But the main loss was not with starting Rowe, it forced other corners to match up against receivers that were just flat out better than them. I feel if Butler played the result would be different, but as the weeks go on we will find out why Butler was really benched.

Thank you for reading this weeks blog, next weeks blog will detail what I am going to be covering due to the fact that the NFL season is over.

My picks for NFL Championship Sunday

Hello everyone,

It’s Sreepal back again with another blog post! This week I will be making my picks for the NFC and AFC championship games.

The AFC

Jaguars Vs. Patriots

Jaguars 38 Patriots 35

Even thought the odds are heavily stacked against the Jaguars, I still have to go with them because I’m from the 904(Jacksonville) and would never bet against them. The Patriots will be forced to play perfectly offensively with no turnovers if they want to beat a lockdown Jags defense. I think Blake Bortles will be the deciding factor in this game. If Blake Bortles can lead his team to 28+ points the Jaguars will walk away with a win. Tom Brady’s injury will also play a HUGE factor in the game. He recently jammed his throwing hand during practice after running into a teammate. I think he will definitely play in the game but his throwing capabilities will be limited by the Jaguars defense and his injury.

The NFC

Vikings vs. Eagles

Vikings 31-14

The Eagles have beaten all odds to get to the NFC championship game after losing their star Quarterback Carson Wentz, who was having a breakout year until he tore his ACL. I’m going to have to pick the Vikings in this one because I just don’t think Nick Foles can handle the leagues best rushing defense. He has had a QBR of under 20 while being pressured and the Vikings defense loves to blitz the Quarterback. The Eagles defense will not be enough to stop the dual head rushing attack of Latavius Murray and Jerrick Mckinnon. Case Keenum is a good enough QB to win a super bowl with, he limits mistakes and is a great leader on the field. With Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen receiving the ball I don’t think the Philadelphia Eagles secondary is enough to stop this talented offense.

Fantasy Football and the AFC

The AFC

The 2 teams almost certain to clinch their divisions are the Steelers and the Patriots. The Steelers have overtaken the Patriots as the top team in the AFC. The AFC South race is between the Tennessee Titans and the Jacksonville Jaguars. I think the Jaguars will come out on top due to the inexperience of Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota and the strength of the Jacksonville defense although Tennessee currently owns the tiebreaker. I predict that the AFC West will come down to the 12/31 game between the Chiefs and the Chargers. The Chargers will most likely win due to their stifling defense and their recent hot streak as the Chiefs have gone cold from their hot start.

Fantasy Football(By Position)

Quarterback

Drop: Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys. The second year quarterback just had one of his best fantasy games of 2017 against the New York Giants, but I remind you that the Giants still are hardly good enough to be an NFL team. Dak losing his star running back, Ezekiel Elliot, will give him more pass attempts, but his schedule for the rest of the season appears to be very challenging.

Add: Case Keenum, Minnesota Vikings. The backup quarterback has quickly turned himself into one of the better fantasy quarterbacks of the second half of the season. The Vikings have a relatively easy schedule for the remaining 3 games so if he is still available you must pick him up.

Runningback

Drop: Frank Gore, Indianapolis Colts. The old running back who has always been a consistent source of 10 fantasy points per game has been disappointing in the 2017 season. His highest point total this season has been 14, which is barely above average for a flex play. If you have him drop him immediately and pick up a free agent RB/WR to replace him.

Add: Dion Lewis/Rex Burkhead, New England Patriots: The two Patriots running backs have been on a tear as of late. As Tom Brady begins to show that he is aging the Patriots will have to rely on their running game more, making these two a prime pickup.

Wide Receiver

Drop: Sammy Watkins, Los Angeles Rams. The former Bills receiver has just been flat out disappointing. With only 1 20+ point fantasy showing this year, fantasy owners who picked him in the 2nd or 3rd round have been robbed.

Add: Josh Gordon, Cleveland Browns. Josh Gordon is a must-add if he is still available. The receiver coming off suspension scored 12.9 fantasy points in his last game. With that being only his second game back from suspension, we all expect him to get better as he shakes the rust off.

Thank you for reading and I will be back next week with an update on the playoff picture and top Fantasy Football pickups.
