Girls Like Me by Lola St. Vil

April is National Poetry Month so I decided to read Girls Like Me since it is a novel written in verse.  It is a very fast read about a girl named Shay Summers.  She is coping with the death of her father, a step-mom, being the fat girl at school, bullying, cyberbullying, teenage angst, and her first romance.  Her two best friends are Dash and Boots.  Dash is gay and Boots is dying of brain tumor thus each are dealing with their own problems too.  Shay ends up meeting a mysterious guy online who happens to be the “prince” at her school.  The book is predictable as the fat girls falls in love with the popular guy but this book has so much more.  A recommend read for those that like a sweet romance tied in with the drama of high school and more.
