You could use something like the sphero to improve shipping. You could scale it up to be usable on a cargo ship. You could use it to keep cargo upright. This would be especially useful for special cargo. You would have to have something heavy on the bottom to keep it from tipping over. On real cargo ships if the ship rocks too far to the side it may tilt onto its side, that wouldn’t be great for the people and cargo on the ship.
