The Game

By: GraysonStiles

I step back and shoot

this shot is for everything

the trophy is mine.

3 secconds are left

the whole building goes silent

I bring home the gold.

They pass me the ball

the game is now in my hands

I have won the game

Twister : By Elijah F

Look at the gray sky

Raindrops falling in large drops

Landing on the ground

Thunder clapping loud

Lightning breaking through the sky

Electrifying

Wind is picking up

Swirling in a large spiral

Forming a twister

Cold winds picking up

Lifting me off of the ground

Dropping me up high

We hope for a day

By:Sydney Andrea

We hope for a day when children can play,

Safe and free from harm.

Where lockdown drills remain just drills,

A future where no childrens lives are lost.

No more parents mourning their children,

Whos lives were taken from them.

No more bullets shattering across a school floor.

Our youth protected now and forever more.

Guns running through the halls,

Angels of death, terrifying to all.

Time is running out, tic, tic, tic.

No blood stained across the school brick.

A future with no lives lost in our schools,

No children scared on their morning cummute.

We hope for a day when our children can play in their currently deadly schools.

Summer

Summer

By: Nicholas Chang

When the final bell rings the sun will shine brighter

When the final bell rings the grass will look greener

Summer time is here and school is let out

All the kids will be free like flying bees

So much to do and so much to see

Like a sailor waiting for an ocean breeze

The trees grow faster and the flowers bloom brighter

The sun shines warmer with its glistering rays

As they peak through the tree tops after a summer rain

The ocean waves are calmer and the dolphins jump higher

All is better when summer is here

Reflection:

1- I published a nature/environment poem

2- I chose this environment because it’s my favorite part of year and I have the most fun during summer. I feel this because students can have a break from school and just have the whole day to do whatever they want like sports and hangout with friends.

3- I felt that it was a little difficult for me to write this poem because I haven’t had much experience writing poetry. However, at the same time I am writing about something I enjoy and take passion in which causes it to be a little bit easier.

4-The tone of my poem is excited and gleeful and the mood of my poem is peaceful.

5-The theme of my poem is everyone should have freedom.

6 a-“All the kids will be free like flying bees” ,”Like a sailor sailing through an ocean breeze”

b- Both of my quotes are similes because they are comparing two things with the words like or as.

c-My first quote contributes to the tone because it expresses how kids can’t wait for summer which relates to excitement. This quote also contributes to theme development by saying how the kids will be free which is related to freedom. My second quote contributes to the tone because it also shows signs of waiting by the sailor waiting for an ocean breeze. My second quote contributes to the theme because the sailor is sailing the ocean which shows signs of freedom.

7-Two ways I revised this poem was making the line “All the kids will be free like flying bees”, I originally had this line as “all the kids will flood out like a dandelion being blown” I made this change because the new line is much more concise and I think it sounds better. Another edit I made was adding the last line “All is better when summer is here” I think this line brings the poem all together and adds an actual ending than just have the line “The ocean waves are calmer and the dolphins jump higher”.

8-I am very satisfied with my final draft because I have worked very hard on this poem and it is something I like and care about. I also feel I can relate to the poem and hope other readers can too.

Father Galaxy

By: Grace Nguyen

It’s known as the father of the night and sun’s other counterpart, the calming father of our solar system, though darker than the sun the galaxy will always shine brighter. The galaxy has stood since the ancient times surpassing even the mother of light. The galaxy can even reassure the sun in times of need and will do anything in his power to provide for his smaller, glowing pupils. The galaxy is an ever growing abyss of glowing stars and colors beyond the beauty of anything on earth.

Even keeping meteors out of trouble and singing planets to sleep. Though neglected many times the galaxy will always remain loving. Until it is stopped at the end of time, by a force more powerful than it’s own.

Loss

By: Justin Hwang

The worst feeling in the world

When you lose someone so close to you

Realizing that you will never see them again

It hits you so hard and fast

You don’t feel anything except for tears

You hear the sound of people mourning

You look up in the clouds and askĀ God why me

You look up and you see the sun

The sun is even looking down on you with a frown

The worst feeling in the world

The whole month you feel so down

When your friends ask if your okay

You say that you are feeling blue

You don’t know what to say or do

When your friends ask if you are sad

You say that your sad as raindrops on a grave

Feeling like you are brave

The worst feeling in the world

Free

By: Divya Kumar

The birds were chirping their faint songs

The sun slowly creeping out behind the mountains

The courts dark blue under layer

Popped out from the green strokes of color

The crisp, white lines defined the ground

The net was perfectly centered

Trees, all around, lightly swaying from the breeze

The fence surrounded me completely

I seemed encompassed

But somehow I felt

Free

First Time Skating

Tripping and falling down but I keep getting back up

I can see my dad on the other side of the rink

Boom, boom my knees hit the ice

My knees feeling like they were broken from hitting the ice so much

The touch of the ice so cold, so hard

Face planted, the taste of icy slush in my mouth, disgusting

Already smelling the nachos I am going to get after I get off the ice

I can almost hear the nachos calling me

My dad and my yells you can do it, you can do it

My grandma cheering me on from the stands

This motivates me even more to get to the other side

Anxious to make them proud

Skating stride after stride

Almost there I can feel my dad’s hands

Just like that I’m there in my dad’s arms

Both of us full of joy

My grandma so happy for me

Thinking to myself I did it, I did it

Now the next step is learning to play hockey my dad said jokingly

First Burger

By Jason Sumner

The lot was old

and sprinkled with weeds

just like their buns topped with sesame seeds.

I could not hold the hunger and excitement within

as I passed the trash bin.

As I moved to the front of the line

I took no time

to order what was mine.

As I carry my tray to the table

my mouth waters with the scent of fresh basil.

As I sink my teeth into the burger

the juices flow out like the the blood from a murder.

I hear lettuce crunching

and I continue munching.

This was my first burger

that satisfied my hunger.
