What Lies Hidden

Many have heard of it

Few have experienced it

You hear stories of those who have survived it, but the stories of those who have been lost drift by like scraps of paper carried by a breeze

Those stories are not remembered, except by those who have awoken to find it at their door

You do not know how lucky you were until it comes knocking, like the grim reaper, demanding a place to stay

The knock however, falls on deaf ears, and because no one answers, it lets itself in

It waits for no one

It picks a place to hide, and grows

It spreads like a weed in a garden

It waits for no one

By the time you find it, hidden in the shadows, it is too late

It did not wait for you

Now there is a clock counting down

Unrelenting, unstoppable, and never slowing down

Now you wish you spent your time more wisely

Cancer waits for no one…

A Powerful Country

By:Harish Viswanathan

A powerful country in the Atlantic Sea.

The ruler of a country however, was as annoying as a flea.

But the thing is, he wasn’t a flea he was none other than a scaly snake.

He sat high on his palace which was bigger than the house in the middle of loot lake.

He watched all over his subjects with a mood so very bleak,

For his subjects were all mice who simply squeak.

The snake king knew his territory had to expand,

He spotted a nice place to settle on the mainland.

He forced many mice to go and live there.

A few years passed by until they knew, the treatment they were given was not fair.

The mice wanted to fight back, but they didn’t know how to,

Except for a few mice who thought they had a clue.

They decided to send a letter to the scaly snake king,

They had to expose the snake some mice were worshipping.

The letter said they are tired of mistreatment and unfairness.

All the mice signed saying they wanted undependence.

The mice rejoiced without the king’s overpriced tea,

there’s a new powerful country in the Atlantic Sea.

Inspired by Poem

By:Emily Keefe

I guess it’s normal now,

To see flowers and banners,

To send hopes and prayers,

And adults will cry for a week,

Then will get over it,

Until it happens again.

You say you’ll do something,

you say you’ll stop it,

But, those, those are just words,

words disappear as quickly as ghosts,

Actions don’t.

So what are you going to do,

What are you going to do Mr.President,

For these kids who are being killed by guns,

You care for lives when they are unborn,

I guess just not in schools.

Ali-A Matters

By: Dylan Greentree

Your british accent soothens my ears

These semi-auto snipes bring me to tears

Your reactions to triple headshots make my fingers shake

Your videos are as juicy as a fresh ribeye steak

The intros are fire, they bring a lot of heat

I hope youtube doesn’t go to your channel and press delete

The gold and glittering jetpack makes my stomach sizzle like bacon

I’d die just to meet you, sir Allister Aiken

237 damage, that is quite a pump shot

You should go live on twitch just give that a thought

You are a god at the game called Fortnite

Never giving up always giving a good fight

I respect your channel, I love you Ali-A

Why won’t you just move to the USA

Seasons (Ceci Weigand)

When the leaves turn green and bright.

When the sun comes out and shines as yellow as lemonade.

When it becomes to hot and feels like you are melting.

I know summer is here.

When the leaves turn inpt buring red, flourecent yellow, and rusty orange.

When the sweet aurma of cinnamon and pumpkin pie wafts through the air.

When children bang on doors faces lit with intecipation for candy.

I know fall has come.

When trees are bare exposed.

When white dancers fall from the sky.

When you stay near the roaring fire, and open colorfuly wrapped presents.

I know winter has arrivved.

When the leaves become beutiful with pink petals.

When there is more pollen then there is people.

When tulips of a varity of colors have bloomed.

I know spring has sprung.

Coaster

By: Johnny Huang

Butterflies in my stomach

Overexcited screeches I hear, like a rave

Whoosh

I feel the rumble of the ride

It made me shiver.

Hands frigid as I sat

Click goes the seats

Platform hissing, to signal

The beginning of an experience

With sweaty hands, I ascend

Reaching the top, I look down

It’s as if i’m on top of Everest

In a swift motion, I descend

It feels like a skydive.

Speedy like a cheetah

Screams from behind

As I zoom through

The countless loops

Whoosh

Before I know it, the ride is over

It flashed by,

Adrenaline still very present.

The Day

By: Kaitlyn Hecker

We were sitting in the tower,

That tall, safe tower.

Skies of blue showered above.

The entrance sounded like the heart-wrenching roar of a tiger.

It zoomed through-

Pieces of ash and gravel plummeted to the ground.

Everyday we awaken

With happiness in our hearts.

We know we are okay.

We represent the people who aren’t here to express themselves,

The people who can’t stand here today.

We, as survivors

Stand strong like super glue.

We share a story-

And we will never be left in silence.

Poetry Publication Reflection:

  1. I chose to publish and inspired by poem.
  2. I was inspired by the tragic event on 9/11 because I had family in the pentagon at the time and it is a very big and inspiring issue to me since I have experience from dealing with the tragedy that came with it.
  3. The tone of my poem is uplifting.
  4. The theme of my poem is to stand strong, and don’t back down no matter what.
  5. a) “The entrance sounded like the heart-wrenching roar of a tiger.” b) This is a simile. c) This simile contributes to the content because it explains how loud and powerful the plane was when it entered the towers.
  6. “We stand strong like super glue.” b) This is a simile c) It contributes to the content of my poem because it shows how well the survivors are getting through it. I know this because my dad is a survivor of the attack, and I know how well he is holding up with everything.
  7. I added the simile “The entrance sounded like the heart-wrenching roar of a tiger.” to better explain how powerful the actual entrance was, and what it sounded like. I also took out a few sentences in the beginning of my poem due to the fact that they didn’t accommodate what the theme of my poem was.
  8. It was very easy to write this poem because right when Mrs. Ehring said we had to write about something inspiring, I knew exactly what I was writing about. My dad was at the pentagon while the attacks happened, so it was very easy to relate to the messages in my poem.
  9.  I am very satisfied with my poem because I feel like I spread a message within my poem. Due to the fact my dad was a part of this tragic event, I could zip through the details because of what he told me. I didn’t have to look anything up or infer anything, and I could actually see the image in my head.

Ode to Spring

By: Armaan Goraya

Ode to Spring

Waiting for spring to arrive

Is like watching paint dry

One day

It arrived

Like a lightning bolt

A flash in the sky

Flowers blooming

As beautiful

As a song

Straight from a blue jay

Breezy

Not boiling

Not freezing

Perfect

Like love

Rejuvenating

Like a cool glass of lemonade

Inviting

Like bait at the end of a hook

Spring has come

One blink

And it’s gone

Like a passing train

There one moment

Vanishing the next

Gone as fast

As it had arrived

Reflection

  1. I published an ode
  2. I chose to write my ode on Spring because it is my favorite season and there are so many things that I love about it.
  3. The tone of my poem is Admiring.
  4. The theme of my poem is that Spring is perfect but it goes by so fast.
  5. A. “Like a lightning bolt”. This figurative language helps contribute to the poem by showing how fast it arrives. B. “Like bait at the end of a hook” This figurative language helps contribute the feeling that Spring invited you to go outside and enjoy the amazing weather.
  6. A. I changed songbird to blue jay in line 10, because it made it more specific B. I added the phrase “There one moment, gone the next” to show how fast spring arrives and leaves.
  7. It was pretty easy to write this poem, because my favorite season is Spring and there are a lot of things that I love about it.
  8. I am very satisfied with my final draft because I read over it many times, and made many changes.

New Freezer

By Adam Yun

I walk into the store

and feel a cold rush of

wind fly past me

My vision temporarily blinded

by the gleaming diamonds

that stood in front of me

Racks in my pocket

weighing me down

struggling to get out

I look down and I see

the crown shining with

incapacitating beauty from the watch

The ice sizzling on my wrist

dripping off me

feeling like a water faucet

The racks leave my pocket

and I leave the store

feeling like a new freezer

Joke

By: Thomas Ferris

The world in ending

Same way as it begun

Through fire and smoke

Trees covered in fire like cotton candy

Screams of bloody terror

Fire every where you can see

Waters full of forgotten oil

Trees growing nothing but ash

Walkways full of bones

When the smoke was gone

And the screaming stopped

There was nothing left

No water

No life

No survivors

The world has ended

The world is finally pure

Why do we feel this is funny

Why do we feel this is a joke
