As I mentioned before, I’ve found it difficult to come up with ideas to write about, because most of the time I am so exhausted from school and gymnastics that my brain feels fried. This time, I decided to find a creative writing idea online. I stumbled upon this one on udemy.com:

3. Write only a paragraph, but…

The paragraph has to end with the words, “He would give anything to turn back the clock five minutes.” Taken from the Writer’s Write Pinterest board for writing prompts, this particular writing prompt forces you to think quickly and backwards. Instead of starting from the beginning of a paragraph and writing to the end, your ending has already been created. You have to come up with what brings the character to that point.

I am excited to see where this goes, it might be pretty strange, so we’ll see. Here we go!

The Pond

He was feeling pretty suffocated after all the tension from that hostile family reunion, and decided to go on a bike ride. He wandered on a wooded back trail for a while, letting his instincts decide where he would go that day. About three minutes after he could no longer see houses, he stumbled upon a beautiful pond. There was a strange stillness to it, and in the frigid cold air the trees were reflected perfectly in the water. The sky reflected in the pond was  a deep blue, darker than the actual sky, as if to conceal the mysteries of the pond. There were no birds in sight or sound. The pond was eerily silent in almost a frightening way, and somehow it seemed like it was giving him a warning. In a vain effort to calm his panicking heart, he found a smooth pebble and skipped it across the water. Instead of the rippling out like he’d expected, the water erupted out of the pond and engulfed him. For a moment he was spinning through time and space and the universe, and he had no idea who or what he was. Then the spinning stopped. He turned and found himself staring out at the sky, which was below him, and there was a lightness to the air and water, and everything blurred into one another, as if it wasn’t quite real. Instinctively he knew that he was in some sort of mirror world with no chance of ever going back. He would give anything to turn back the clock five minutes.

Fun Fact:  While this story was fictional, as I was writing it I got inspiration not only from the prompt, but also from an actual bike ride I went on about a week ago with my friend and a picture of this pond that we encountered. I enjoyed using the bike ride to have something to start off with and then twisting up what happened to make it interesting.

Let me know what creative writing ideas you guys have for me!
