Working With Hands

Hands are particularly hard to draw. Here’s how I draw my hands.

  1. Start with a circle
  2. Depending on which hand, go to the bottom curve of one side and draw a line up, not too long, that curves out
  3. Curve this line back in, this is the thumb
  4. From where this line meets the circle, up a little is where you start your fingers
  5. Draw a line up, curve the top and come back down but don’t hit the circle, brush by it and curve into the next finger
  6. This should be the longest finger, and the middle finger, make sure it is not too much longer than the pointer or ring finger
  7. Curve the top of this finger and come back down, don’t hit the circle and give yourself and little more space between this curve and the circle as you lead into the ring finger
  8. Once you curve the ring finger come back down and make this curve wider than the rest as you go into the pinky finger, and make sure to make it noticeably shorter than the other fingers
  9. Curve the top and come back down, curve into the bottom of the circle
  10. Make sure any one finger isn’t too long, short, thin, or thick compared to the other fingers
