This past Wednesday I saw Avengers:Endgame in the theaters with my friend Ella. She is a huge marvel fan and had seen all the movies up to this point, unlike me. I am not a huge marvel fan and haven’t seen all the movies, but wanted to see what all the hype was about. All over social media I would see “DON’T SPOIL ENDGAME” I was really curious to see what is was all about. The movie is rated PG-13 and is three hours long! Three hours was a bit too long in my opinion. The plot of the overall movie is about the last Avengers movie where all the superheroes turn into dust into an alternate universe. This movie is all about turning back the time to get everyone back. Ant Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Nebula, and Rocket Raccoon have to do this by getting all the gems back from Thanos. They do this by creating a time travel bracelet and go back in time to where the gems are. They all split into teams and go on these crazy journeys to get them. The rest of the movie contains the major spoilers, so I will keep it a mystery. If you are a huge marvel this is a must see because it is the end of an era. If you are like me and just wanted to see what all the hype was about I don’t really recommend it. I was very confused at some parts because of my lack of marvel knowledge. Overall the movie was good, and would’ve been a lot better if I had seen all the marvel movies. I would rate this movie a 7/10.
Mamma Mia is a classic movie that everyone knows and loves. I saw this movie over the summer in the theaters and loved it. I had seen the original and loved it, but the more modernized version is much better in my opinion. I do recommend watching the first one before you watch this one because it will help you understand more of the movie. This movie has a soundtrack that will make you want to get up and dance right in the theater. It’s a very interesting look into Donna’s life before her daughter. You see Donna graduate college and she decides to go adventure in Europe. She meets Bill, Harry, and Sam along the way on her adventures. The movie also goes back into the present where Donna’s daughter Sophie is revonating a taverna in Greece, this was Donna’s dream. Donna has past away in the present times, so Sophie is living out her dreams. This movie is great for a family movie night, and is just a really uplifting and fun movie. I would rate this a 8.5/10.
“Isn’t it romantic” is a romantic comedy that is PG-13. It stars Rebel Wilson, Priyanka Chopra, Adam Devine, and Liam Hemsworth. It’s revolves around Rebels’ character, Natalie, who isn’t in love and HATES romantic comedies. She goes on and on about why she hates them to her assistant at work. She has coworker who is totally in love with her named Josh. She doesn’t take any of the hints that he’s trying to send. Natalie is walking home and a man attempts to steal her purse. She gets it back and walks straight into a pole and hits her head. When she wakes up in the hospital she is now in her own romantic comedy. Liam Hemsworth is now in love with her and wants to go on a date with her. She has an amazing apartment with an amazing closet. She now has a cliche gay best friend, and her assistant is now her mortal enemy at work. She goes to work and her office is now so much nicer and Josh really only sees her as a friend. She starts to go out with Liam Hemsworth, and starts to like the idea of him liking her. She later in the film starts to miss her old life. Josh is starts dating Priyanka Chopra, and Natalie gets jealous. She realizes Josh is the one for her, but when she realizes that Josh announces his engagement. Natalie crashes the wedding, and Josh doesn’t reciprocate and marries Priyanka. Natalie realizes she doesn’t care and she loves herself for who she is! She then wakes up in a hospital and is back to her old life and she is ecstatic. She goes to work tells Josh how she feels, and they live happily ever after. I rate this a 8.5/10! I highly recommend this movie Rebel is very funny and fills this role perfectly.
Bohemian Rhapsody is PG-13 and is a drama/biography film. This movie was outstanding the acting, music, and overall film was very well done. The movie is based on the band Queen who’s lead singer is Freddie Mercury. The movie really only goes in depth about Freddie’s life because he’s the one that really created “Queen”. Throughout the movie you see how they went from nobody’s to one of music’s greatest bands. Freddie had a very hard and complicated life especially since he was questioning his sexuality, and back then it was quite frowned upon. He goes through trouble with drugs, alcohol, fame, and his family. His father never approved of him being a singer because he thought it wouldn’t last. He got caught up in the fame and eventually left the band for a couple years, but they reunited after to continue “Queen”. Towards the end of the movie you see Freddie get diagnosed with aids, and this really takes a toll on his vocal cords. He eventually gets too sick to even perform. This movie is definitely a must see. I had heard of Queen, but did not know their story. Also, the soundtrack is amazing and made me enjoy their music. Rami Malek who plays “Freddie” is an amazing actor and really plays Freddie well. I rate this movie a 9/10 only because I feel they skipped over some instrumental parts of Freddie life to make it a PG-13 film.
The movie Fyre is a netflix original and is a documentary about the fyre festival. It revolves around the brains behind the disaster, Billy Mcfarland. He had this great idea to have a music festival on a private island in the Bahamas, and have many famous models promote it to attract customers. The tickets itself were very expensive for the festival, but they also had packages to purchase online. That supposedly included lavish bungalows, great food, and drinks. There was not nearly enough time or money for this to get done. So, Billy just kept taking people’s money even though none of it was ever going to look the way it was described and pictured online. The “lavish bungalows” were actually hurricane matthew tents that people used when their homes were destroyed. People showed up to the festival in udder shock, they couldn’t believe this is what they spent thousands of dollars on. Billy was arrested for fraud and four other charges. This was truly the greatest party that never happened. This documentary was very interesting and I highly recommend to anyone who likes documentaries. I rate this a 8/10.
Christmas is just around the corner and I recently saw The Grinch in theaters. This was another animated remake of the grinch. This was considered a fantasy/musical and is rated PG. The movie is perfect for a family movie night. It was very cute and well done. In this remake the Grinch is made out to more compassionate and nice. In other versions I’ve seen he was more mean spirited. In the movie you’re made to feel bad for the Grinch instead of him being unlikable. The rest of the movie was all around a great film. I rate it a 7.5/10.
Over Thanksgiving break I watched “The Gift”. This movie is a movie/thriller and is rated R. This movie is definitely worth a watch. It is about a husband and wife who recently moved to a very nice mansion that is all glass. Simon, the husband, sees a man from his past who seemed kind of off. Rebecca, the wife, felt bad for him and invited him to dinner. Simon seemed annoyed throughout the dinner and did not like him. Gordon, the weird man, kept dropping by at weird times and acting strangely. He would only drop by when Simon wasn’t home and Rebecca was all alone. He drops off “gifts”. The whole movie is very suspenseful and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The ending has a big unexpected plot twist. I rate this movie 8/10.
Over the weekend I went to the movie theater and saw “The Hate U Give”. This movie is rated PG-13 and considered a drama/thriller movie. This movie faces real life harsh topics head on and sets a great message. This movie is set around the Black Lives Matter movement. A teenage girl named Starr and her friend Khalil, the driver, got pulled over by a white cop. Khalil stepped out of the car and was shot by the officer. The whole movie was set around Starr and how she stands up for Khalil. She was the only witness and felt like she had a voice. This movie was very well produced and very well thought out. I rate this movie 8/10.
For my first movie review I wanted to review one of my favorite movies, “A Quiet Place”. This movie is rated PG-13 and is considered a thriller movie. This movie is about how a creature is invading Earth. This creature is blind, but has very good hearing. So, everyone on Earth has to remain silent to stay alive. A Quiet Place stars the couple John Krasinski and Emily Blunt. They play the role of husband and wife with three kids. In the beginning of the movie their youngest plays with a loud toy and gets killed by the creature, which makes the parents very cautious throughout the movie, Throughout the movie they try to stay alive with their daughter and son, but the mother is pregnant. She has to silently give birth, which complicates things. This is the climax in the movie where the family gets split. The father ends up sacrificing himself to save the kids. All in all I would give this movie an 8/10 because it will have you at the edge of your seat.
