The Issue On The Table

Hello everyone! I would say that it is great to be back on this blog again, but under these circumstances, I have decided not to. The issue on the table is coronavirus. As you may know, the coronavirus is spreading quickly and has a large death count. In my state, there has already been several cases of it, in different cities. I wanted to address this issue because of how important it is. If you didn’t know, coronavirus is more serious to older people, so teens and children are not likely to die from it. However, that doesn’t change the fact that we all still have to take care of ourselves in order to make sure we do not get coronavirus. I want to say that this issue is not that critical; the flu has killed more, but what I am worried about, is that the coronavirus has killed more in a shorter amount of time. The thing is, is that there are people who joke around and just say things like “It’s corona time” in an accent.

I don’t like hearing people say that because this issue is serious enough that people shouldn’t be joking about it like it hasn’t killed anyone. However, there are other people who are TOO serious about it. So much so, that I have seen shelves in stores completely wiped. People have been stocking up on toilet paper, food, water, everything. This has gone out of hand and people are literally planning to quarantine themselves inside their house to not get corona. I understand why they are doing it, but it is definitely not healthy for humans to stay inside for weeks. And we don’t know how long this will last; how long corona will be in the world. How long will we have to wait for corona to disappear. The weeks we wait will eventually turn into months. We have to do something about this.

People ARE DYING because of this, and our only solution is to quarantine ourselves inside our houses, hoping that we don’t die too!? We just expect this problem to be solved at some point of time, but WHO will solve it if everyone is either hiding away from the world or not giving a care about it!? If we stand by and do NOTHING, this might just be the end of our civilizations! We cannot let corona be the reason that all the older people are dead and the world is only left with teens and toddlers. We HAVE to do something. We can still help the situation by spreading news and information about corona over the internet and if possible, by word. We have to be able to spread awareness about it. There are humans that have corona, but they haven’t  been diagnosed and/or they haven’t noticed. Imagine how much lives we all could save if we just spread knowledge on it.

I happen to have an app called ‘Wattpad’ where people all around the world publish stories and things to communicate with people. While I was on the app, I came across a wonderful story that someone wrote about corona and how to prevent it. Since not everyone has Wattpad, I will use that information and spread it through blogs, so you all can know more about corona.

Coronavirus is also known as COVID-19. Coronaviruses are a group of viruses that include common colds, SARS, and MERS. The most recent COVID-19 outbreak before coronavirus, was not discovered in humans. However, this coronavirus is apparently different. Some symptoms of coronavirus:

  1. Runny nose
  2. Sore throat
  3. Fever
  4. Cough
  5. Difficulty breathing
  6. Pneumonia
  7. Vomiting

Corona seems to start off with a fever and is accompanied by a cough. Then, a week later, a struggle to breath and/or a need to be hospitalized. You may or may not know that corona attacks the lungs, which is why you have difficulty breathing. There has been more than 129,000 cases and 4,750 deaths globally. Nearly 7,000 cases were reported in 24 hours. Only 53.1% of the cases have apparently been cured. Corona is so serious that one person could easily spread it to 10 people and those 10 people can spread it to 100 more humans, which is how it gets around so quickly. Some of you may not know how it spread to America or to your country. It is simply because people travel around the world and they may not have known they had COVID-19.

There are people who use their time to care and help others with corona, and they are more likely to catch COVID-19 because of it. And what are we doing to help them? Hiding away in our homes and stocking up on all the shelves in stores. As of March 12, 2020, there has been 129, 842 cases, 4,751 deaths, and 68,672 people who recovered. Here is what you should do before and after you put on a mask. Before and after wearing a mask, wash your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water. Avoid touching the mask while using it. If you do, clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.

When to use a mask:

  1. For healthy people, wear a mask only if you are taking care of a person with the corona
  2. If you are coughing or sneezing, wear a mask
  3. Masks must be used in combination with frequent hand-washing with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water
  4. If you wear a mask, then you must know how to use it and dispose of it properly

Even in areas with corona outbreaks, products of meat can be consumed safely if they are cooked properly and handled properly.

How to stay healthy while traveling:

  1. Avoid close contact with people suffering from a fever and cough
  2. Frequently clean hands by using alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water
  3. Avoid touching your face, eyes, mouth, or nose

How to stay healthy if you work in wet markets:

  1. Wear protective gloves, gowns, and facial protection while taking care of animals or animal products
  2. Wash your protective clothes daily after you use them
  3. Avoid exposing family members to your work clothing

How to protect yourself from getting sick:

  1. Avoid skin contact with others that are sick, or in my opinion, avoid skin contact with everyone
  2. Avoid skin contact with animals

How to protect others from getting sick:

  1. Avoid close contact when you are experiencing fever symptoms
  2. Avoid spitting or spreading saliva in public
  3. Get medical care if you are experiencing any symptoms of a fever or if you are coughing or have difficulty breathing

You may be wondering if it is safe to get mailed objects from China. It is indefinitely safe because corona does not live long in inanimate objects like packages.

Things NOT to do to avoid COVID-19:

  1. Gargle mouthwash
  2. Rinse your nose with saline
  3. Use smoke and gas from fireworks and firecrackers
  4. Eat garlic
  5. Put on sesame oil
  6. Use vaccines against pneumonia
  7. Take antibiotics

Pets that you keep with you at home have no evidence as to whether they can be infected by COVID-19. However, it is safe to wash your hands after you come in contact with your pet.

Prevention:

  1. Wash your hands often
  2. Avoid touching your face
  3. Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  4. If you are sick, stay at home and stay hydrated
  5. Cover your mouth if you are coughing, it’s better to do this with a tissue or mask so it doesn’t get on your hands
  6. Practice good hygiene habits
  7. Wear mask at crowded areas
  8. Clean and wipe down any object that you have used or are using

How to wash your hands properly:

  1. Wet your hands with water
  2. Apply soap to your hands until it covers all of your hands
  3. Rub your hands together palm to palm
  4. Rub in between your fingers on both hands
  5. Palm to palm with your fingers interlaced
  6. Move the backs of your fingers to the opposing palms while keeping your fingers interlocked
  7. Rub your left thumb in rotating motions by holding it in the palm of your right hand and vice-versa
  8. Rub your palms with your fingers
  9. Rinse your hands with water
  10. Dry your hands very well with a single-use towel
  11. Use the towel to turn off the sink faucet
  12. Your hands are now clean/safe

How to properly use hand rub:

  1. Apply a handful of the product into cupped hands
  2. Rub your hands palm to palm
  3. Rub in between your fingers on both hands
  4. Scrub palm to palm with your fingers interlaced
  5. Move the backs of your fingers to the opposing palms while keeping your fingers interlocked
  6. Rub your left thumb in rotating motions by holding it in the palm of your right hand and vice-versa
  7. Rub your palms with your fingers
  8. Once it is dry, your hands are safe

That is all the information I could find for you all today. However, I will continue searching and give you all an update on COVID-19. Keep in mind that the information in italics is not credited to me; I did not form or make this information. I got this information from a story on Wattpad titled Corona Virus (A informative guide). This particular story was made by the profile ‘Club_womanism’. If you would like to really understand this information that I have shared with you today, please go to Wattpad(the website if you don’t have the app) and find the book where I extracted the information. That is all I have to share with you for now. So, I will have to bid you adieu and take my leave.

Stay safe and cautious out there,

Drawing Addict out~

  1. Nadia,
All I can say is WOW!!! Your post was so informative and helpful. Thank you for sharing all of that detailed information. I wish I could broadcast it to the world. I completely agree with all of your points, I am also feeling the same emotions during this difficult time. The good news is that the precautions we are all taking should help to prevent the US from heading down the same path as Italy. I will most certainly check out Wattpad. Thanks for the recommendation.
If you have a chance, read Cana’s and Lily’s posts. They both did a great job too! I mentioned in my response to Lily that the silver lining of this experience is that I’m completely committed to continuing this community of ours long after all of you graduate, move, or leave River Bend. Having the opportunity to work with the eight of you has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my teaching career. We will share our thoughts, emotions, and writing in the years to come. Without a doubt, there is much greatness that will spring from our small group of eight.
    Keep writing!!!!
