100 Word Challenge Week Two

Once, there was a man who suffered such great heartbreak that he isolated himself from the world. He wandered into the great forest, sinking to the ground and letting the green leaves envelop him in shade. Decades passed, and yet the man remained unchanged, wallowing in his sorrow. After centuries, he became one with his surroundings. His skin hardened, leaves started sprouting from the brown bark, and he slowly put down roots. They say if you’re suffering and wander into the same forest, you’ll find him there. Sit down. Take a deep breath. When you stand up, you’ll feel better.

This is a very thoughtful and moving story, Grace. You have used some excellent descriptive words to show how sad this man was. ‘Wallowing in his sorrow’ is really effective, as is telling us that he ‘suffered such great heartbreak that he isolated himself from the world’. I also really like the positive ending you have given to this story, without changing what happened to the man. Your story has a very hopeful message.
