Let’s Talk Corona

Hi, and welcome back to a sane post.

I haven’t done the blogging challenges in a while, so I decided that I should probably do this one. (That’s a lie. My teacher actually just assigned us this post.) So, anyways, I’m just going to get right in!

Schools around the globe have always been, well, different. A few years back, I actually attended an international school over in Bangkok, Thailand. We were on the schedule known as “year-round school.” As horrible as that sounds, it’s actually a lot better, in my opinion. Summers would be shorter, yeah, but we would have a ton more short breaks sprinkled throughout the year. We also had a ton more freedom, but that might’ve just been because we all attended a fancy private school in a gated community.

However, I think this coronavirus thing really united how schools act around the world. Before quarantine actually happened, I remember joking around with friends and hoping school got shut down because we didn’t want to go to school. Now that it’s actually happened, I bet a lot of people wish they cherished school more. Don’t get me wrong, I’m perfectly happy being locked inside my house, but some people aren’t.

Now that schools around the world are all shut down, we’re all being forced to teach the exact same way: online. People who have never had anything in common before are now striking up friendships just by talking about their classmates and things they do during quarantine.

I don’t have much else to talk about, so that’ll be all! Stay safe!

quarantine routine !!

Hi y’all. As we been knew, the coronavirus has taken over the world. Virginia has officially shut down schools for the rest of the year. You know what that means? I had to establish my own little routine.

  • Wow, list time! Such a fancy way to organize things.

  1. Wake up. I know, such a hard step. Although I don’t like to admit it, I’ve only woken up before noon three times this quarantine. My typical wake up time is around 1am. I know, I have a problem.
  2. Bathroom tings. My personal morning (afternoon) bathroom routine always starts with the hygienic cleansing of the bones inside of the mouth. Putting this simply – brushing my teeth. After that I do my little skin-care routine (I’m not gonna go in depth on that). Boom! I’m done with the bathroom.
  3. Getting dressed. This step has been skipped everyday. Everyday is pajama day.
  4. Catch up. Waking up at noon has its own little perks (such as extra sleep), but it also comes with a lot of drawbacks. It requires me to catch up on everything that happened overnight and throughout the morning. Pretty much I just check all of my notifications.
  5. School (ew). This was only added this week, unfortunately. Since my mom’s a teacher, she’s been adamant that I complete things for school. I don’t enjoy it at all, especially since only a few of my teachers have actually posted things related to our actual class. The second my teachers actually start assigning online work, and not just optional hyperlinks, I’m sure I’ll have a much better time.
  6. Vibe.
  7. Movie time! So far, my family has watched some sort of movie literally every night. My family has become very addicted to Marvel movies. We’ve started a marathon and we’re trying to watch every movie in chronological order. Before our marathon started, my sister and I would watch a Disney movie every night too.
  8. Bathroom tings pt. 2. I’ve decided to skip meals for the sake of writing this post. In Bathroom Tings Pt. 2, we get to experience me doing the exact same steps as before. Except, surprise! We switch the order!! Instead of brushing my teeth first, I wash my face first. Gotta love skin-care, amirite?
  9. Sleepy time. Alas, back to sleep. Once again, I start my slumber until the next afternoon.

I’ve done pretty much nothing this entire quarantine. My “routine” literally just consists of procrastination. Love y’all, see you next post.

9 Things I’ve Learned

9 Things I’ve Learned This Year

As we all know, 8th grade is a very educational year (I think). It’s the year right before we transition into high school. So below, I’ve collected a number of things I’ve learned this year. They’re not all specifically educational, but I’ve learned them this year in 8th grade.

  • About Anchor. In our Communications class, we had a podcast unit. We used this website called Anchor. Anchor is a website that easily lets you record and share your podcast to many major listening sites.
  • Lists. Although I’ve made many Kahoots, I never knew you could make a question into a list. In Civics class, we had a Kahoot where every single question was a list/put the answers in order. It was weird, especially since I’ve never seen a Kahoot list before.
  • Lists, continued. Another thing I’ve learned about lists is how many things attract viewers. Apparently, odd numbers gain more views. I always thought multiples of five or two would be the best way since they’re numbers that everybody knows and they’re an easy way to gage how many things are on the list. Guess not though.
  • Hexagon inside a circle. Yeah, I know. This one is a bit wack. I learned how to draw a perfect hexagon inside of a circle! As you can probably guess, I learned this little ‘trick’ in Geometry. This isn’t that important; I just thought of it.
  • Colors. I’ve realized that a lot of people think I like the color combination of yellow and black. Sure, my blog is bee themed, but that’s just because my spam account on Instagram is bee themed. If I was more creative and had come up with a better username, my account would definitely be light pink. Most likely, I’d find some sort of way to incorporate yellow in there too. Fun fact about Beelia, I hate bees (bumblebees and honey bees are on a fine line).
  • Pathos, ethos, logos. Wow, something that’s actually educational. In Communications, I learned about the advertisement techniques that every advertisement has to use. Pathos, which appeals to the emotional side. Ethos, when advertisements appeal to credibility and show that their product is legit. Logos, advertisers use facts and logic to prompt you to buy their product.
  • Biteable. Back at the beginning of the year, we all created a how-to product on what makes a quality comment. You can view the video right here !
  • One-handed 45. As some of you might know, I participated in fall guard/marching band during the fall season. What a lot of people don’t know is that color guard actually has their own individual, inside winter guard season. Our show this year is Hamilton themed. The ending flag toss is definitely the hardest toss I’ve ever learned. We have to use one hand to throw a six-foot metal pole in the air at a perfect 45 degree angle. We have been learning the toss for around three months already and we still haven’t been allowed to move on to using one hand to actually toss.
  • Thesis statements. I’ve decided to close off my list with another thing that’s actually educational. Before this year, I didn’t actually know how to form a proper thesis statement. I had no clue about the [topic]+[position]+[two broad reasons] before 8th grade English. I may be a good writer for essays and things, but somehow I’ve never been taught this before.

These things are just a small portion of all the things I’ve learned this year. I’ve learned so much, and the year isn’t even over. I hope to learn and experience so much more before this year ends.

2020 !!

Hello !! I’m back and planning to be a lot more active here (probably not, but I’ll try). Today in Communications Class, we did a little activity to learn more things about our classmates. We just asked little questions, like what their favorite song or color is. It was really weird going around and learning everybody’s personality more, even while interviewing them.
A lot of them seemed to like singing, but they all said that they were bad at it. However, none of them had the same favorite color. Like, Emma S. said that her favorite color is purple, but Brie likes red.
It seemed that many of them had four people in their family, including themselves. However, there was one who had 12 people ! There’s also Emma G, who seems to have more pets than humans. Most people who had pets had a dog, but obviously not everybody has pets. Even I don’t have a pet, but I am pushing to get some guinea pigs. Specifically two guinea pigs, since guinea pigs are social creatures and won’t be happy without a friend. During my research, I was trying to learn if a guinea pig would be happier with or without a friend. I learned that they’re much happier with friends. In fact, they’re so social that Switzerland made it illegal to own only one guinea pig!
I also noticed that a lot of my class couldn’t decide on a certain favorite food. Everybody would hesitate when asked that question, so everybody had to change the question to favorite type of food – like Italian or sweet. Personally, I enjoy the food that I grew up on, which is Vietnamese. A lot of people also couldn’t think of their favorite movie, but not many people actually ended up changing the question so that it was more genre-based instead of title-based.
Anyways, that’s all I can come up with for this post! How can you relate or contrast to my classmates? Please leave a comment!

Holidays !!

Hey hey hey!!

Something that you might not know about me, although I’ve mentioned it before, is that I lived in Thailand for two years!

I remember a few holidays that we celebrated there, specifically Songkran and Loi Krathong. I won’t go into the details of Songkran since this post is about Loi Krathong, but I can give the important parts.

Songkran is the Thai national New Year. It lasts for three days, but it extends to five. It’s essentially just a really long water fight. Its purpose was to wipe away the bad memories by constantly getting soaked. People would walk around with water balloons, water guns, and umbrellas. The official dates are April 13th through April 15th, so don’t go to crowded places in nice clothes on those days.

Now, about the actual topic – Loi Krathong. Loi Krathong’s date is never set as it takes place on the evening of the full moon of the twelfth month of the traditional Thai lunar calendar.

Loi Krathong is also about getting rid of bad vibes, but instead of getting soaked, you float a lantern. Now, I know you may be thinking, “oh, lanterns, like in “Tangled”?” Well, guess what? That’s wrong! Floating lanterns in the sky are actually for Yi Peng. They’re on the same date, just in different areas. Yi Peng is mainly in northern Thailand, whereas Loi Krathong is celebrated all over. Loi Krathong is when you float the lanterns on the water.

The Loi Krathong boats/floats tend to be made out of bamboo, at least, that’s what mine was made out of. You would decorate your boat with leaves, flowers, literally anything you want. Loi Krathong is definitely the most beautiful holiday I’ve ever witnessed.

I just love learning about other cultures’ holidays, so please share !

Free Choice – States !!

Sooo, fourth week of the SBC !! Yes, I know I’m a bit late, let’s ignore that though.

Anyways, let’s get right into what this post is.

This weekend, my marching band went to state assessments. It was surprisingly a good temperature. Like, our uniforms are pretty revealing, but I only needed my stadium jacket. The other marching bands we watched were pretty good, but apparently we were the “best” in the time block we were performing at.

Now, of course we all enjoy hearing about a little experience. But the score is the more important part of states. Our band got a superior !!
Obviously some of you guys probably might not know what that means, so I’ll tell you. A superior is the highest score you can get at assessments. Other bands there got excellents, but I think three other bands got a superior in the time block we were.

This is kind of rushed, so I’m sorry for that.

A to Z – About Me

Hi, this is just a random post to give you an idea of my personality, so I hope you learn something about me today. First off, I kind of want to bee an interior designer when I grow up. I’m not sure when I decided this, I’ve just always been good at finding colors that go well with each other, plus, I find it relaxing to decorate rooms so interior design would be an excellent job for me – I think. Anyways, I adore fuzzy animals, especially bees (though I’d hope you’d figure that out by now). Bumblebees are such adorable creatures, though sometimes they lack the grace you expect from flying creatures. Honey-stly, I adore puns, animal puns just make them so much better. Maybe you could leave some puns in the comments? Haha, I’m kidding! Unless…?

Okay, I’m sorry for the lame tiktok joke, I’m not meant for the life of a comedian. Unfortunately, nobody laughs at my jokes, unless I stole them, or I’m the only one laughing. Really though, please leave a pun or joke I can steal in the comment section. Also, the joke would, hopefully, qualify as a bee jokes. Since, you know, recently, all of my jokes have been bee themed, since my blog is bee themed. Unfortunately, there’s not many bee puns out there, unlike cat puns (I’m just claw-ful at thinking up bee puns. Cat puns are so easy compared to the fur-midable task of making bee puns).

You know what would have some weird puns? Vacuums. I know, I know, weird topic, but it’d be fun! Like, I’m going to suck all that negativity out of your life, and clean it up to make room for those vacuum puns. Okay, nevermind, abort mission. How about we talk about music instead? Let’s talk about the great musical instrument, the xylophone! I can’t play it, I don’t remember how it sounds, so I can’t think of anything to say about it, sorry. All I remember is that I hated playing it back in third grade music, yuck! Welp, that’s all for now. I’m going to go zip away, bye bye!

All About Me(lia)

  • I was born in Japan. My parents happened to be on a two year long business trip when I was born. I stayed there for a few months before we moved back to the USA. I don’t remember anything from Japan.
  • I lived in Thailand for two years. During third and fourth grade, my family went on another two year business trip. I have to be honest, I miss Thailand. I loved the heat (as crazy as that sounds), the school was so amazing, and most of the teachers were fun.
  • I despise the color orange for no known reason. I don’t really have a reason for this. Maybe it’s because, in third grade, there was a kid that wore only orange. I have no idea, other than that, I hate it. The only time I think orange looks ok, is streetlight aesthetics.
  • I’m in color guard. I’ve always wanted to spin color guard, even as a little kid watching a marching band. I just always had a want to touch those flags and be able to do pretty things with it. Although my school doesn’t offer color guard, our sister school does.
  • I love volleyball. Unfortunately, I had to quit volleyball in favor of color guard. I played volleyball for three years and I was about to start my eighth season when I had to stop. I would love to go back to volleyball, even if all of my past skills (such as my overhand serve) have left me.
  • All I do is school, play Minecraft, watch anime, and sleep. I’m not sure how to describe this. I go to school, come home (or go to color guard practice), play Minecraft for a few hours before I go and watch some anime or show until the am, which is when I remember I have to sleep. So yeah, the only reason I’m not a complete couch potato is because of color guard and my occasional meetup with my volleyball friends.
  • My birthday is March 7th, but in America it’s March 6th because apparently I have two birth certificates. So, I was born in Japan, but Japan is 13 hours ahead of the USA. When I was born in Japan, it was 2am. Since I’m an American citizen and not a Japanese one, we had to call back to inform them of my birth. I assume my parents told them I was born on March 7th, 4am, but I’m not entirely sure. I remember my dad once said something about my two birth certificates, one Japanese and one American. Incase you haven’t figured it out, March 7th, 4am, in Japan is March 6th, 3pm in the USA.
  • I love reading. I adore it. I love most genres, especially romance and horror. I have to admit, I’m not that big on the typical YA dystopian romance novel, but that’s just because they literally all have the same plot. Though I love romance, sometimes there’s too much romance in dystopian books. But anyways, I love reading. My favorite book is either Ready Player One by Ernest Cline or Carry On by Rainbow Rowell.
  • I’m half Vietnamese, half white. I would hope this is self explanatory. My mother’s from Vietnam, I don’t know which part. And my dad, well, his family pretty much comes from every European country out there. Our family name comes from Scotland, but I think most of our family origins come from France or something like that.
  • I love animals. I want a pet desperately. But nobody in my family has enough time for a dog (we’ve tried), and both my sister and mother are allergic to cats. My mom refuses to get a pet that stinks up the house, so that puts almost every animal out of the picture. Although cats stink occasionally, we have all agreed that if there weren’t any allergies in place, we’d definitely get a cat. Which, you know, is pretty disappointing. Since cats are my favorite animal, it’s quite sad to hear that if there weren’t health problems, I’d get one. I’ve helped out at an animal shelter kind of nearby our house, and all of the animals are so friendly.
