Today in science Mrs. Dunn came to our class and talked about our electives for seventh grade. All of them sounded so good! In communications, you could make, edit, and be in B-A-M news and you will learn about many different forms of speaking, things like public speaking, and different forms of writing. In coding you could become a computer scientist and create video games and other things on electronics. When I first made my choice I heavily gravitated towards the languages: Spanish, French, German, and Latin. I talked to a lot of my friends and I thought about it quite a lot. Finally, I decided Latin because I felt it most interested me. When I came home I was really excited to tell my parents about our electives and my choice. When they heard about it they were intrigued about why I would pick a language that was dead and spoken by almost no one. When I heard their arguments I realized that I wouldn’t really have any use for Latin in the real world unless I chose to become a doctor, a career path that I don’t think is for me. So I removed Latin from my choices, but then the question arose. If I wouldn’t pick Latin, what would I pick? I thought about it for a long time and I asked for my parents input again. They asked me about what Mrs. Dunn said about each elective, when I told them they quickly came to an answer, a language. They thought that Spanish, French, and German would be good languages if I liked the idea of a language but I wanted one that I could use more often. The idea was good but it had a problem, I didn’t really like any of the languages (I know, I’m picky, right?). Again we all thought hard about what would be best, now between coding and communication studies. I looked up what the coding curriculum was and I read that for the first half of the year we would do scratch and for the second half we would do Python. Both of which I already knew. So it seemed after much thinking and debating there was one clear winner……… Communication Studies! It wasn’t my first pick but in the end I realized I would probably have the most fun and learn the most in another year with Mrs. Haseltine! In the comments section, post what you picked for your electives!
