In The Sky

In the sky,

Unlike the dark night,

Is a bright light,

Up high in the sky

In the sky,

Many tiny dots,

Like glimmering spots,

Up high in the sky

Silver, bright,

You light up the night,

Sometimes full,

Sometimes with a bite,

Up high in the sky

Quote of the Week #3

Quote of the Week today,
Will be in poem form,
Because it is still poetry month,
So this would be out of the norm.

Amrutam tu vidya.Knowledge is eternal,
Is a sanskrit proverb.
I think it means that things we discovered decades ago aren’t forgotten,
Just added onto and relearned.

I chose that quote,
Because it’s good to know,
Our ancestors affected what we learn,
To help us thrive and grow.

Everyday Sounds

Whoosh! Goes a car as it speeds by,
If they’re in a rush, I’m not sure why.

Honk! Goes the horn of a thousand cars,
Stuck in traffic ‘till they see the stars!

Rustle! Goes a paper as students take a test,
I really do hope that they do their best!

Squeak! Goes the sound of shoes on a court,
The kids must be playing a fun team sport.

These are the sounds I hear everyday,
As well as robins, cardinals, and perhaps a bluejay.

Poetry Is…

Today in english class, we had an attendance question which read, ‘Poetry Is…’. There were so many different answers, some positive, some negative; some sentences, some single word answers.

This inspired me to write a poem, so I used a lot of these different answers to write one. I hope you enjoy!

Poetry is…
Like sunshine
A dream
How I express myself
Glorious

Poetry is…
Pointless
Boring
Something I wish never existed

Poetry is…
Like a waterfall, it flows and ripples
Like jellybeans because there are many different types
A way to relax
Like a voice singing out to me

Poetry is many different things
To many different people

Friendship

Keeping in touch from here to there,
Caring friends are everywhere.

Good friends are kind and never let you down,
They always put a smile on your face instead of a frown.

If you are ever in trouble,
Your friend is like a protective bubble.

It doesn’t matter if you have one or two,
Your friends will always be there for you.

The Making of the Atomic Bomb

December 1938
A German laboratory
A man
A shocking discovery

Radioactive material
A uranium atom split in two
Enough power to jump a grain of sand
Multiplied by one million?
One hundred million?
The race was on

Three continents
Scientists
Expert spies
Military commanders
To get the formula
The reward?
Military dominance
Over the entire world

December 1938
A German laboratory
A man
A shocking discovery…

Water

Water
Liquid
Flowing
Like silk it glides
Its gentle hand soothing
And calming

Water
Destruction
Frothing mass of fury
Thundering down
With the power of the ocean

Water
Nourishing
Disastrous
Your greatest ally
Or worst enemy

Invitation to Poetry

April is poetry month, which means that it marks the start of the poetry challenge. You might be asking, Why is it a challenge? Well, you have to write poetry…. every single day in the month of April.

This challenge is right after the Slice of Life challenge, which makes me think that less people will want to do the poetry challenge because they are “recovering” from the last challenge.

I think that I will do the Invitation to Poetry challenge, which means that I will have to post thirty pieces of poetry, one for every day. I think that it will be hard, but also a lot of fun.

Here is a poem to start us off!

April
Its started
Poetry
For thirty days

Thinking
Planning
Wondering
Worrying

What to write…
How to write it…
Will this work?
Can I do it?

Thirty days
And we’ll see!
