Ummm, what’s going on weather?

Today I wasn’t supposed to go to school.

Today I was supposed to stay in bed and sleep in till ten.

Today I was supposed to watch all the T.V. in the world and do just that.

I can tell you what, that didn’t happen.

So, all I can say is,

“Ummm, what’s going on weather?”

Today I was supposed to stay in my pj’s all day.

Today I was supposed to do some stress relief painting.

Today I was supposed to take a nap.

I can tell you what, that didn’t happen.

So, all I can say is,

“Ummm, what’s going on weather?”

This is wrong,

This is crazy,

I’m supposed to be at home all lazy!

I can tell you what, that didn’t happen.

So, all I can say is,

“Ummm, what’s going on weather?”

9 Thoughts.

  1. This is a great poem! Isn’t the weather so baffling at this time of the year? We are so ready to see Old Man Winter go away, but he is a stubborn old guy…except for when we want him to be. A little temperamental, I would say!

  2. I love the use of repetition here! And I ESPECIALLY love the part about “stress relief painting!” Oh MY do I need some of that!

Well done. I really enjoyed it.

  3. I love how your voice comes through, Writer! Your style makes me smile. There’s a little rhyme for you. Hope you’re smiling too!

  4. What a thought! I work at a neighboring middle school, so can absolutely understand when you ask, “Ummm, what’s going on weather?”. Well done!

  5. I wish I had written this! Wow! The repetition in the first two stanza was so calm and reassuring with your “Today I was supposed to … options” and then when you changed up the content in the third stanza with short punchy lines . . .

What a great text! I live in the Midwest and I often say this about the weather and the weatherman’s prediction! Thanks so much for sharing!

  6. Such a well-crafted poem! I love your repeating line “Umm…what’s going on weather”- it shows such voice and really pulls the poem together. I’m typing this on a snow day on the second day of spring so I can completely relate to your poem! I also love the repeating line of “Today I was supposed to” because it makes me feel your frustration of a snow day that was assured and then taken away!
